Parents should always be in guide

Social media has become a daily companion for most adolescents, and its influence on mental health is undeniable. On the positive side, social media helps teenagers stay connected with friends and family, even across long distances. It provides a space to share ideas, celebrate achievements, and find communities where they feel accepted. For example, shy or introverted teens often find it easier to express themselves online, which can boost their self-confidence. Social media also raises awareness about mental health, with many young people finding comfort in pages or groups that offer advice and support.

However, the disadvantages are equally real. Constant exposure to other people's highlight reels can make teenagers feel inadequate or left out.Comparing themselves to influencers with seemingly perfect lives can lower their self-esteem and increase anxiety. Many adolescents develop a fear of missing out when they see friends hanging out without them or attending events they weren't invited to or can't attend because of the strict parents they have.

Take the story of a 15-year-old teenager from the U.S.A. who was seeking validation from friends and online acquaintances, because she wanted to feel included, joined a trending challenge at the time. In this challenge, all your friends act as if they are going to jump up but instead stick a leg out for you to dodge. You then have to avoid it and remain standing, or you will fall and hit your butt on the floor.

She actually fell, but unfortunately for her, she hit her head on the floor, and that was the end. She died, and the parents have the guts to come and say the TikTok challenge killed their daughter because she was a sweet girl but was always trying to get people's love. It means she wasn't getting enough at home. Why didn't they do anything to help her until she died?. They were agitating that TikTok should be ban.

Cyberbullying is another major downside. Negative comments or online harassment can severely affect a teenager's self-worth and mental health.Excessive social media use also reduces the time spent on real-life friendships, hobbies, and sleep, all of which are important for a healthy mind.

Social media has both empowering and harmful effects on adolescents' mental health. While it can provide connection, support, and a sense of community, it also poses risks that need to be managed. Parents, educators, and teens themselves must work together to develop healthy online habits, encourage balance, and build resilience against the negative impacts of digital life. This has led many teenagers to an early grave and others to become addicted to drugs and other harmful substances.

There are advantages like you mentioned, communication with family and friends and celebrating success but from experience I think the disadvantages are becoming more than the advantage.
Your writeup I enjoyed reading it.

Social media has loads of negatively it can do to young ones and that's why we parents must play our path in monitoring their social presence and interactions, also guiding them on digital literacy.
