Let it be structured
This topic here was what my friend and I were arguing about just yesterday. If homework should be scrapped or just be restructured.I have once been a teacher and I can tell you, I hate giving students and pupils too much homework because to me, they are already burnt out in school to get burnt out at home too.
A child will go to school by seven o'clock in the morning, let's say class starts at 8:30 and pauses at twelve o'clock for their lunch break, then learning continues till three o'clock, after that lessons continue till five o'clock.
They come back with loads of homework, which they might do till ten or eleven o'clock. Some continue in the morning while having their breakfast, others in the car while heading to school.
There are the parents, especially mothers, who might be working from eight to six o'clock, rushing back home to prepare dinner, bathe the kids, and still assist those who can't write properly and those who are finding the questions difficult. If time permits, she has an office report to submit.
I wouldn't want it to be completely scrapped because some kids, even with homework as soon as they get home, the first thing they do is turn on their television for cartoon time. Some who don't watch cartoons either ride their bicycles or find something unimportant to occupy themselves.
I remember when my brother had to travel with his wife to another state for a church program, and he dropped the kids with me. I have to report to the office by seven o'clock; anything later than fifteen minutes, I am late.
I will come back by five and I will have to make their dinner and sit them down to assist them in doing their homework. Sometimes this homework comes in three subjects: English, mathematics, and quantitative and verbal reasoning. Additionally, I still have one junior secondary student to deal with. Sometimes, these kids insist on using a method that is not different from what their teacher taught them.
Which might be confusing for you as a mother, father, or aunt. By the time you understand this, thing finish and starts teaching the child, some of them are already sleeping because they are already stressed out from school activities.
I do wonder why a teacher would give a nursery child four assignments to do, then the same thing for primary school students. After that, they can add shaping something and drawing what they've shaped before moving on to answering questions and solving mathematics.
I honestly think teachers should give them this homework during the weekends at least to keep them busy, but not this everyday homework , it should be scrapped. If you assign it to test their understanding of what you taught, that's why there is classwork to do that. Whatever you think they didn't understand during your class and the classwork, you have the lesson hours to review it.
At least before the next topic, you will somehow revisit your previous topic. Homework shouldn't be scrapped but let it be only on Fridays so they can be occupied during the weekend. That being said, don't overload it. Kids should be kids, please.
Thank 💕 you for stopping by my blog
It seems a good idea to give them homework for weekends. But I honestly believe that what should be reforming is the educational system, which is very bad in most countries. It must be educated for life, and not for children to learn to repeat what appears in a book.
I was a teacher for 1 school year, and innovated in my method. I gave computer classes, I do not study teaching anywhere, and yet they gave me the prize to the honorary professor of the year. My students loved me, to the point that even today I keep contact with them after about 20 years. My teaching method was based on learning playing, and I didn't even need to send them tasks for their homes because they themselves surprisingly worried about learning the lessons to continue moving forward in the game that I proposed in class.
That is why I say that what is needed is to change the teaching method, and if that is done, they will surely have very good results 😀

I agreed with you, it's best to change the teaching method in most country
Yes, for a better world with students that are really prepared and intelligent.
