The best presentation of the Book Fair! 🤓📚 (Eng-Esp)

A greeting to all the friends of #ThrowbackThursday. Nostalgia never hurts when it comes to evoking good times. I think it is necessary for today, since I come to evoke one of the best moments of the already past Book Fair in my city.

That day I had been attending the José Soler Puig Literary Promotion Center since early that morning. I had the commitment with myself to see the presentation of the book "Leviathan" by Juan Edilberto Sosa. Juan is my friend and co-worker, and as I am a follower of his work I knew that I could not miss this moment.

The presentation was great and I was able to get my book autographed after waiting in a long line. Something that also encouraged me was the fact that I met several friends among the spectators. Whenever one arrives at a place and meets friends unexpectedly, a tranquility difficult to explain in words becomes upon the heart.

Once I had my signed book in my hands, the workers of the center announced that other books would be presented, and that the following were the titles of the Gente Nueva Publishing House. Then something happened that I really didn't expect. Like a fire arrow, a redhead I've known for a long time entered the place...

María de Jesús Chávez (@gaviotawriter) is a writer from Santiago who moved to Havana. I met her through the Hermanos Saíz Association, and then we discovered that our parents used to work together. What strikes me about her is her dark humor, her wit and her sincerity. I was surprised to find her there because I really didn't know that she was going to participate in this Book Fair, I didn't even know that she would be in the city.

I was able to greet her quickly before her presentation started, she asked me to take several photos. It was really a pleasure to listen to both her and her partner. In Havana they already have a different vision of how a book should really be promoted and sold, which is rare in this part of the country, so their intervention was very peculiar and striking. As a result, within minutes of presenting his three titles, the copies that were at the presentation were sold out.

I had time to chat with her and catch up. They even took a photo of us that is currently available on the publisher's Instagram wall.

It was an excellent moment and I look forward to seeing more book presentations like that (as I look forward to learning how to sell books like that).

Un saludo para todos los amigos de #ThrowbackThursday. La nostalgia nunca está de más cuando acude para evocar buenos momentos. Creo que para hoy es necesaria, ya que vengo a evocar uno de los mejores momentos de la ya pasada Feria del Libro en mi ciudad.

Ese día había asistido desde temprano al Centro de Promoción Literaria José Soler Puig. Tenía el compromiso conmigo mismo de ver la presentación del libro "Leviatán" de Juan Edilberto Sosa. Juan es mi amigo y compañero de trabajo, y como soy seguidor de su obra sabía que no podía perderme este momento.

La presentación estuvo genial y pude conseguir que autografiaran mi libro luego de esperar en una larga fila. Algo que también me animó fue el hecho de encontrarme con varios amigos entre los espectadores. Siempre que se llega a un lugar y uno se encuentra con amistades inesperadamente, se vuelva sobre el corazón una tranquilidad difícil de explicar en palabras.

Una vez tuve mi libro firmado en manos, los trabajadores del centro anunciaron que se estarían presentando otros libros, y que los siguientes eran los títulos de la Editorial Gente Nueva. Entonces sucedió algo que realmente no esperaba. Como una saeta de fuego entró en el lugar una pelirroja a la que conozco desde hace ya un buen tiempo...

María de Jesús Chávez (@gaviotawriter) es una escritora santiaguera que se mudó a La Habana. La conocí a través de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz, y después descubrimos que nuestros padres solían trabajar juntos. Lo que me llama la atención de ella es su humor negro, su ingenio y su sinceridad. Me sorprendió encontrarla allí pues realmente no sabía que iba a participar en esta Feria del Libro, ni siquiera sabía que estaría en la ciudad.

Pude saludarla rápido antes de que comenzara su presentación, ella me pidió que tomara varias fotos. Fue realmente un gusto escucharlas tanto a ella como a su compañera. En La Habana ya tienen una visión distinta de cómo realmente se debe promocionar y vender un libro, cosa que es rara en esta parte del país, así que su intervención fue muy peculiar y llamativa. Como resultado, a pocos minutos de haber presentado sus tres títulos, los ejemplares que había en la presentación se agotaron.

Tuve tiempo para conversar con ella y ponernos al día. Incluso nos tomaron una foto que por hoy se encuentra disponible en el muro de Instagram de esa editorial.

Fue un momento excelente y espero con ansias el momento de ver más presentaciones de libros como esa (como mismo ansío aprender a vender libros así).
