Monument a symbol of honor
Good day, amazing people of the Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompt topic, 'History Remembers'.

For me, I don’t think there is anything that is as complicated as history. If I must say, that is why humans are also complicated. History is all about man. We know that man is not perfect and can never be, but in all, many are remembered for their good deeds, while some are remembered for their bad deeds.
The main reason for building a monument is to commemorate a person or culture. Before a state or nation builds a monument of a person, it means such a person has done noble work, and doing this will help keep their legacy and the memory of the person in the hearts of the people. Whenever they pass the monument, they will always remember the good work such a person has done for the community or society.
After researching this topic, I get to find out that a monument is not only a statue; it can be a building, a road or a street named after a person’s name to acknowledge how great the person is. It is also a symbol of honour. I can remember when I was still a child; there was a monument in my school. I always told my friends how I wished I was the one there because, for one, a monument means the person merited it and deserved to be remembered.
If someone used for a monument has a questionable character, what should be done? Do you think it will be nice to demolish the monument or rename it? I always believe that one of the criteria for someone to be a monument is based on the impact such a person has had on the society, and not for someone with questionable character. Most of the monuments I have come across are all noble men – people who have sacrificed their lives for the nation or community. Let's talk about Nelson Mandela. If you read the history of South Africa, you will get to understand that this man put in his life for his nation.

We should be very careful of people we honour with monuments; if possible, do proper research before doing that because if the wrong person is used as a monument, it will not be easy to erase the history. I know of a monument that was destroyed in my area because they found out that the man had a questionable character. Even after they demolished the monument, the memory is still with the citizens.
If the citizen finds out that the monument is there to promote evil or in honour of someone who did bad things, it will be better if such a monument is demolished, more especially if the monument hurts people or promotes evil. It will not be nice that people keep seeing such a person's statues because they will always feel hurt.
In a nutshell, if a monument is not adding value to a community or doesn’t represent you, you have every right to question the monument. Nobody is perfect; it will be better if we focus on the good side and neglect the bad side.

That's my point one must be aware about the historical facts. If any monument doesn't add value nothing wrong in questioning about its existence.
