The consequences of not cleaning our environments everyday

Even though it may appear to be a healthy habit to clean every day and it frequently is when we take a closer look, particularly from the perspective of the environment, things can become a little bit worrying. Many of the cleaning products people use at home or in public places contain strong chemicals. Even though these chemicals make our floors shine or kill germs, they frequently end up in the trash. From there, they reach rivers, lakes, and even the ocean.

These substances can harm fish and other water creatures because they upset the natural balance of water life and sometimes kill tiny living things that are necessary for the food chain. Also, the packaging of cleaning products is mostly plastic. Every time we finish a bottle, it gets thrown away, adding to the ever-growing pile of plastic waste. Some of it might get recycled, but a large part ends up in landfills or worse, scattered around our natural surroundings.

These plastics can take hundreds of years to break down, and while they sit there, they release microscopic pieces of plastic known as microplastics. These microplastics can get into the soil and water and slowly get into plants, animals, and even people. Everyday cleaning often means a lot of water is used too.

Whether it’s mopping floors, scrubbing bathrooms, or washing surfaces, the liters of water add up. In places where water is already scarce, this daily routine can put pressure on already limited water supplies. Plus, the production of cleaning products, especially those with artificial scents or bright colors, involves factories that release smoke and waste into the air and water.
Therefore, despite the fact that we clean our homes on a daily basis, neglecting the environment can cause silent harm. It’s like sweeping the floor but brushing the dirt under the rug of nature—sooner or later, it will show.
