The Silent Crisis: How Climate Change is Threatening Our Water || cleanplanet activity 7-02-2025
Good day planet protectors.
As I noticed, when people talk about climate change, they tend to focus more on the rising of temperatures, it also encompasses the effects on the water that we make use of everyday of our life.
The negative effect of climate change on our waters is so terrifying that it can already be felt on our Waters around the globe. So today, I will be talking about the vivid realities of how our water resources has been impacted negatively by climate change:
- Intensifying Droughts:
Due to the increasingly high temperatures , the rate of evaporation increases and as we all know, the severeness of the draught is being felt more.
The consequences of this is that our agriculture will be impacted negatively, and also a shortage of water for those in the rural communities. Imagine a scenario where the water reservoirs is dry and almost the entire region suffering from scarcity of water.
- Increased Flooding:
This might sound funny right, but it is the harsh reality. As some people face scarcity of water , increasingly flooding is experienced by others. This is so because climate change has a way of disrupting the weather patterns, so done region might experience excess rainfall, this can lead to the overflowing of the drainage system , this can lead to rivers , and banks bursting and flooding homes.
- Warmer Water Temperatures:
Our aquatic animals are not also left out as they also suffer from climate change. As a result of the increasingly temperatures, not only does the temperature of the air that we breath rise, but also the temperature of the water. And as we know, the more warm a water becomes,the less oxygen it can hold.
This means less Oxygen for the aquatic life.
As can be seen , these effects mentioned above are all related and from it , we can see a glimpse of what the future will look like if we fail to act fast and address these changes.
We all know that water is a very precious natural resources that all living creatures depend and as such , we should ensure it is taken care of in other for us to have a cleaner planet.
How then can we prevent all these and make our environment clean ? , That will be a story for another day.
