DĂas de ansiedad: Venciendo al monstruo. Anxiety Days: Defeating the monster. [Esp-Eng].

Here I am, this is me: an apprentice of magic performing my most valuable trick: turning tears into poetry. A dreamer of worlds where we are possible. A child, as brave as one could be, making a wish: to defeat the monsters.
And who hasn’t heard anxiety whispering from the shadows? Who hasn’t felt its claws and found themselves all alone?

Not long ago, I experienced a panic attack firsthand. My body collapsed after giving so many signals that were ignored day after day. It silenced the laughter, the sleep, the strength—everything! Little by little, I was losing myself among the things that hurt. The memories, the people, life itself! And suddenly, there I was, literally on a highway, my sense of direction shattered. With trembling legs, a heavy body, unable to breathe, as if a crane were crushing my chest. I didn’t know what was happening to me or why. I just wanted to sob out loud, and the tears flowed on their own after the first minute; then I fell to the ground, not knowing what to do. There was no one around until my phone rang, and after several attempts, I saw it was someone important to me. Seeing their name on the screen gave me a tiny touch of calm to tell myself once again: "Don't cry, you must be strong." The phrase that for so many years made me stay silent and forget how to cry. The phrase that I have been told so many times. I wiped my tears and answered, but although I steadied my voice, they knew me well enough on the other end to know I wasn't okay, and when they asked, I collapsed all over again... But the story didn't end there; right then, they said something to me: "You can allow yourself to be vulnerable; if you don't want to talk, write!"

Breaking the silence behind the grief? The least light of monsters, or at least my own. I have heard depression and anxiety spoken about in such a sublime way that it doesn't even seem like something bad to say out loud. As if our struggle—my struggle—were painting on a canvas with irregular strokes.
Then, my broken soul disguised itself as an artist, and no, I won't say that I defeated my struggle by painting. Anyone who has suffered from anxiety or depression knows that we live that battle every single day.

Hoy no vine a terminar mi historia.

Today, I didn't come to finish my story. Today, I came to be vulnerable. For you, for those going through this. In my world of letters, I can defeat the monster!
Perhaps we are too ethereal for this world. Or perhaps the world knows that in order to be strong, we must know fear.
How do you defeat the monster?
