The Last Pub I Visited - The Pub Weekly Prompt

It's been a little while since I've visited a pub. I could go more often if I brought the kids, since they'll still serve you in the family seating area, but it's less relaxing. As such, I try to plan my pub visits when I have a babysitter.

The pub I like to visit is called "The Harp." They're run by an Irish family and are super friendly. I find the "sweet spot" is around 6-7pm, since a good chunk of the dinner rush has abated by then.

The Drinks

Whenever I go there, I always have to order at least two glasses of Kilkenny. They use nitrogen in the beer, so you get creamy froth and a very smooth taste.

I haven't delved too much into their mixed drinks. I tried a hot coffee with Bailey's in it, and it was just okay. I'll have to try something new next time.

The Food

You can't go wrong with anything of the food. My favorite appetizer is the pretzel bites and beer cheese. The sausage rolls are delicious as well!

The mac and cheese has white mustard powder in it, and it's fantastic! I like to ask for an extra side or two of the beer cheese sauce and mix it into the mac and cheese. They use larger Cavatappi-style noodles, so they hold a good amount of the cheese sauce, ensuring you get a good amount of cheese in each bite!

If I'm not in the mood for mac and cheese, then my backup is bangers and mash. The sausage has great flavor to it. The mashed potatoes are soft and fluffy. The best part is they don't skimp on the gravy. It's a cream-based gravy, and they have chunks of sausage in it. It's absolutely delicious!

It's been a couple of months since I've been there, but writing about it makes me want to go back. At the very least, I could go for a glass or two of Kilkenny!

That sounds like a really amazing place! I have never had that kind of beer, but I do enjoy a good Killians from time to time. We used to have a chain place near us called Bennigans, but they closed down a long time ago and I have missed them ever since.

Yeah, it's great! I'm really glad they're not super far away. The other Irish pub is only 30 minutes away, but it's a pain parking downtown.

That sucks the one near you closed down. Are there any others similar or are they kind of rare?

There are a couple in the area that claim to be Irish Pubs, but I don't think they have quite as extensive of a menu. Probably the best one I have been to is across the state in Grand Rapids.
