Questionable Magazine Holster Retention
Back in 2022, I put time and effort into upgrading my Walther PPQ M2 into the workhorse I wanted it to be. I bought Taylor Freelance +12 mag extensions. I added suppressor-height fiber optic sights with tritium. I bought a Dead Air Odessa 9 suppressor for it so I could keep it quiet but have something for camping where I don't care about carrying concealed.
What I put off for the longest time was a magazine holder. I have the factory ones, but I wanted one that held three so I can carry a total of 109 rounds of ammo on me at once. Would I need all of that? I hope not, because cell service is sparse and emergency services are probably a good 30-40 minutes away.
So, I found a holster on Amazon. It's all made in China these days, but Kydex is Kydex. It just needs to take a few impacts and keep going without breaking the bank. I turned it over and noticed the locking clip is similar to my holster, but not quite.

So the U-shaped piece gets pulled down. All that holds that in place is this tiny plastic bead.

Next, you squeeze the side tabs in towards the center and pull up.

These two horizontal bars slot into different notches to adjust for most belt sizes. The only problem is the whole design seems kind of flimsy for long-term, harder use. Fortunately, the whole clip is attached by screws, so I was able to find a push-button replacement like the one on my holster.

I'll likely swap out for this for better longevity, so long as the retention works well for the magazines. I have a camping trip coming up, so I'll have a chance here soon to put it through its paces. Then, if it all works, maybe I can call this project complete.
