Just Keep Juggling

Life has a tendency to throw curveballs when you least expect it. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't doing it while you're trying to focus on other problems at the same time. It can feel like a dangerous juggling act that could go horribly wrong at any moment.

I took on a new position at my work, and some days I feel like the guy in the picture. There are too many things going at once, and one wrong move could wind up causing lots of headaches for me, my direct reports, my boss, etc. We're human and make mistakes, but if we're honest none of us would make mistakes if it was within our power to avoid them.

Prioritize and "Attack"
I'm finding the best way to accomplish everything is to start with a list, prioritize what is most time-sensitive and important, and start from there. As curveballs get thrown, address them in the order that's most time-sensitive relative to everything else and keep going down the list.

Stay Positive and Be Realistic
Everything will eventually get done, one way or another. It may not all be today, but it'll happen. As long as I'm making good progress, I'll be fine. It was before, and it will be that way again.

I've got time cards to approve tomorrow, a coaching session with an employee, another employee is leaving, my boss's supervisor wants my opinion on an analytics feature in our software, I need to follow up on new equipment for an employee, ship out some prizes for a contest that concluded, and somewhere in all of that I'm supposed to turn in my old laptop for a new one. Then, next week I start a multi-week training course in addition to meeting with my team and coordinating everyone getting time to complete annual training required by HR. It's a lot, but I keep on juggling. It'll all get done, eventually, one item checked off the list at a time.

True. Prioritizing tasks based on which is important and urgent is key. Some tasks may be important but not urgent. Some may be urgent but not important, like replying to a text message. Some are both. Some are neither urgent nor important.

Prioritization is just it.

Best of luck to you! I'd like to say it slows down and gets easier, but I don't think it every really does.

I can relate to this. Sometimes I want to give up. However, I prefer to do things that can help reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed.
