Life's Flaming Curveballs of Doom
This month has been absolute garbage in terms of trying to plan anything. In March I received a jury summons notifying me I've been selected to possibly serve the entire last week of this month. The only problem is the curveballs didn't stop there.
(Created with ChatGPT)
In addition to the jury summons, I have a team of seven people to manage. I'm required to complete three evaluations with them each month. Normally that's not a big deal at all, but in addition to jury duty I was required to attend three straight days of leadership meetings in the middle of the month.
What I'm supposed to normally take four weeks to accomplish I had to cram into two weeks. That also includes check-ins, training modules, time cards, cramming in the the last two weeks of a leadership course that overlapped with leadership meetings, and creating a succession plan for my position. To say I felt like I was burning the candle at both ends would be a laughable understatement.
Despite the odds, I got it all done. And in the end of course I was excused from jury duty, but only one day at a time, which means I couldn't plan or count on being able to do anything. This will likely go down in my memory as one of the most obnoxious moments in my life, ever. And now that it's done, it's time to pour a cold one and relax.
Despite all of the deadlines and the time crunch, everything went according to plan. It was hectic, but it worked out. The saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" couldn't be more true. I'm not dead. I'm alive and kicking, and going forward I'll be stronger for it. I've made it through the fire and come out of it more refined, more resilient, and better for it.
Would I do it all again? Heck no! When you have no choice, though, and the flaming curveballs start coming, you either "get busy living, or get busy dying" as Shawshank Redemption so aptly put it. To all my fellow stressed-out people trying to dodge the flaming curveballs of life, here's to you. Cheers!

Oh! Scrumpy!, best I had was in Devon, one pint and I was flying. I believe it was called Prisoners Poison, from a small cask on the bar.
Since then I've had a soft spot for Scrumpy, something very simple , genuine and effective about it
Very cool! My wife heard about it from a coworker, so we stopped in and grabbed a few bottles. They make good stuff. 😁

Don't you hate how they do that with jury duty? I feel like I am due for one of those letters in the mail anytime now. It's been a while since I had to call in.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. Either commit me to the whole week or release me, but don't make me check in daily so I have to put my whole life on hold for potentially nothing.
