1oz Happy Birthday Silver Round

I came across this piece at my local coin store. I wasn't really picky about what silver they gave me, so they grabbed some one ounce rounds at random, bagged them for me, and I was on my way.

I looked through them later that day. Most were just generic buffalos or trade dollar rounds. This one is interesting because it's meant to be customized.

Obverse

I don't think they put "happy" and "birthday" enough times on this. 😆 The cake is a fun design, so at least that helps break up the cluster of words.

Reverse

On the back side of the round is a large, blank surface area surrounded by some elaborate vine and leaf designs. The reason for the blank space is to allow you to take it to a jeweler to have a person's name engraved in the blank space. Once engraved, it makes for a very sweet keepsake that's "precious" in more ways than one. 😁

Every once in a while, you come across these already engraved with someone else's name. Perhaps they parted with it for financial reasons, or maybe it ended up in an estate sale. I like the idea behind these, but sadly, many today would rather have a gift card or electronics than their name engraved on a silver birthday round. If you can find these second hand, you can usually get them pretty cheap, so don't hesitate if you're just buying for weight.

That round is awesome! I love weird rounds, and that one is wacky! Nice buy. SGB used to do random ounce tubes, but the last few times I ordered they were all just buffaloes.

Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised it hadn't been engraved yet. Right? What's with all the buffaloes?

Keepsake rounds are so yesterday.
My nieces and nephews prefer to choose their own silver coin from out from my gift chest now holding a variety of; Marvel Heros, Star Wars, Scottsdale Unicorn, In Omnia Paratus round, Kookaburras, Koalas, and Silvertowne 'Dead men tell no tales' rounds. It's fun to watch them dig into it.

Now that's a cool idea! I like it!

I bought some small treasure chests for both boys to bury later for a birthday treasure hunt when they're a little older. My oldest is probably at the point where he'd appreciate it.
