My participation in the #SMARP Contest - Round #279: Reflections from a meeting with colleagues [Eng/Esp]

Hello dear Shadow Hunters community! Here in Venezuela, I can tell you that we are slowly recovering from the catastrophe we suffered exactly two weeks ago. It has been heartening to see how most people are trying to return to their daily routines, knowing that on our shores there are Venezuelan brothers and sisters who are still fighting to reunite with their loved ones and doing their part to keep the country running economically. Today I had to go to the lab because the engineering faculty was going to inspect the labs, so I had to go early. Unfortunately, the engineers never arrived because they were evaluating other structures east of the city and couldn't come. I was with my tutor, who was annoyed. She doesn't like having her time wasted, but under these circumstances, it's something beyond our control. So, I convinced her to have coffee and a croissant with me down on the avenue, since our lab is on a hill that has become a risk zone over time. That's why the engineers' evaluation was necessary!

Finally, she was calmer, so we went down for coffee and a more relaxed conversation, since we hadn't seen each other since the Tuesday before last week—that's 15 days ago! She had helped me teach my lab session, and after the earthquake, we hadn't been able to communicate for all those days, so it was the perfect time to catch up. We went to the most elegant bakery and café on the avenue, which is characterized by its transparent glass facade! It was the perfect opportunity to capture that reflection I was wanting to hunt in these spaces of the city and to be able to share it with you in this SMARP contest round #278.

There were several reasons why I wanted to hunt for a reflection in this part of the city. The first is that there are many buildings and establishments made of glass, which creates truly interesting reflections if you take the time to sharpen your senses and find a reflection that captures truly original moments. The second is that, unlike the southern part of Caracas, which suffered considerable damage, this area of the city, which also has apartment buildings from the 1940s and 50s, managed to remain intact after the strong earthquake we had two weeks ago, and I wanted to try to capture some of them in a reflection.

As soon as I arrived, I found the reflection I was looking for. In one of the display cases, where the tables for serving coffee and desserts are located, you can see one of those old buildings, intact after a double earthquake. This part of the city is, in a way, very vintage; the buildings and establishments seem to deliberately maintain and preserve these buildings and their style. You can also see the reflection of the trees growing on the sidewalks; in fact, the entire avenue is covered by the canopies of these trees, forming a green corridor that offers shade along the whole way.

When we went inside, we ordered some croissants and a couple of coffees, but while I waited, I took a photo of one last reflection. In the back, where they bake the bread and cakes, there was a long mirror that reflected part of the interior of the place, and beyond that, you can see part of the exterior. I captured it at the exact moment when a receptionist was standing, and outside, you can see a student walking on the street. It's a really cool composition, and it's the one I wanted to use to conclude my participation in this SMARP. I hope you enjoyed it, see you next week. Best regards!

Que tal querida comunidad de Shadow Hunters! Espero que se encuentren bien, yo aquí en Venezuela puedo decirles que poco a poco nos estamos levantando de la catástrofe que padecimos hace ya 2 semanas exactamente. Ha sido esperanzador ver como la mayoría de las personas reintentan nuevamente volver a sus labores cotidianas, sabiendo que en nuestras costas hay hermanos venezolanos que todavía están luchando por recuperar a sus seres queridos, están haciendo su parte tratando de mantener el país andando económicamente. Hoy tuve que asistir al laboratorio ya que el cuerpo de ingenieros de la facultad de ingeniería iba hacer una inspección de los laboratorios, así que tuve que ir temprano, pero lamentablemente los ingenieros nunca llegaron porque estaban evaluando otras estructuras al este de la ciudad y no pudieron venir. Estaba con mi tutora que estaba enojada, no le gusta que le hagan perder el tiempo pero bajo estas circunstancias es algo que se encuentra fuera de nuestras manos, así que la convencí para que nos tomáramos un café y un croissant abajo en la avenida, ya que nuestro laboratorio esta en una colina que con el tiempo se vuelto una zona de riesgo, por eso era necesario la evaluación de los ingenieros!

Al final, ya más calmada bajamos por ese café y hablar con más calma, ya que no nos habíamos visto desde el martes de la semana ante pasada, es decir hace 15 días! Cuando me ayudo a dictar mi práctica de laboratorio, y después del terremoto estuvimos todos estos días sin poder comunicarnos, por lo que era el momento ideal para ponernos al día. Fuimos a la panadería y cafetería más elegante de la avenida, que se caracteriza por estar hecha de cristales transparentes! Era la oportunidad perfecta para capturar ese reflejo que estaba queriendo cazar en estos espacios de la ciudad y poder compartírselos en este concurso SMARP round #278.

Había varias razones por las que quería cazar un reflejo en esta parte de la ciudad, la primera es que hay muchos edificios y establecimientos hechos con cristal, por lo que se generan reflejos realmente interesantes, si te tomas el tiempo de agudizar tus sentidos y encontrar un reflejo que capture momentos realmente originales. Y el segundo es que a diferencia de la parte sur de Caracas que si sufrió daños considerables, esta zona de la ciudad que igualmente tiene edificios de apartamentos de los años 40 y 50 lograron mantenerse intactos del fuerte terremoto que tuvimos hace 2 semanas y quería intentar capturar algunos de ellos en un reflejo.

Nada más llegar conseguí el reflejo que estaba buscando, en una de las vitrinas, donde están las mesas para servir el café y postres, se puede ver uno de esos edificios antiguos, intacto después de un doble terremoto. Esta parte de la ciudad es en cierta forma muy vintage, los edificios y establecimientos parecen mantener y preservar deliberadamente estos edificios y el estilo también. Se puede ver reflejado también los árboles que crecen en las aceras, de hecho toda la avenida esta cubierta por las copas de estos árboles, formando un corredor vegetal que ofrece sombra a lo largo de todo el trayecto.

Cuando entramos pedimos unos croissant y un par de cafés, pero mientras esperaba tomé la foto de un último reflejo, al fondo, donde hornean el pan y las tortas había un espejo largo que reflejaba parte del interior del lugar y más allá se observa parte del exterior lo capturé en el momento exacto donde estaba una recepcionista y hacia el exterior se observa un estudiante caminando en la calle, es una composición muy genial y es con la que quise cerrar mi participación en este SMARP.
