My participation in the Phone Photography Contest! - #115: April nights in Caracas [Eng/Esp]
Greetings, dear Feel Good community! It's always a pleasure to share the photos we take on our phones for this special space. Today, for this Phone Photography contest, Round #115, I wanted to share this photo of the Chiquinquirá Church in La Florida, Caracas. The circumstances that led me to this place were that my car broke down last week after the intense activity I had in the teaching labs. Although I managed to successfully complete those labs, towards the end of the week the exhaust pipe simply cracked, and the noise it made was deafening. I had to spend money on a replacement, which took me all weekend to gather, and then yesterday I finally got the part replaced.
While I waited for the part to arrive and the mechanic to get to work on the car repair, I went to have breakfast at a café right across the street. After breakfast, I stopped to calmly admire the avenue, and there it was: the magnificent Church of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá. This cathedral has always amazed me because, although it was completed and consecrated in 1958, its style has that medieval feel that characterizes the entire urban center of Caracas. And it's no wonder; the architects built it in a Gothic-Romanesque style, which explains its imposing presence, clearly visible even from afar.

However, the reason I took a picture of it with my phone wasn't so much its origins as a Capuchin monastery or its resemblance to a medieval fortress. It was the memories it evoked, because a school called San Antonio de La Florida was also built within this church. This is quite common in Caracas parish churches, which tend to place great importance on values and education. The truth is, my best friend in high school went to that school. I went to a different school, but since we lived in the same building, we always ran into each other there when my dad picked us up. We often met there after school to play arcade games, spending endless hours enjoying that free time after classes. Those were definitely different times, less chaotic than now, which seems like a bizarre episode of Black Mirror.
At the end of the day, they installed the exhaust pipe on the car, but now I also have to replace the muffler as soon as possible, so my finances are still tied up with car maintenance. But we have time to get the money to buy it by the next pay period. As we were leaving the shop, I took a picture of the front of the church, where I used to meet my friend after school. Saludos apreciada comunidad de Feel Good! Siempre es un gusto compartir las fotografías que tomamos en nuestros móviles para este espacio tan especial. Hoy, para este concurso de Phone Photography en su Round #115 he querido compartirles esta fotografía de la Iglesia de Chiquinquira de La Florida en Caracas. Las circunstancias que me llevaron a este lugar pues fue que mi carro quedó fuera de combate la semana pasada luego de la intensa actividad que tuve en los laboratorios docentes, aunque logre concluír esas prácticas con éxito cuando ya estaba terminando la semana el tubo de escape simplemente se fracturo y el ruido que generaba era simplemente ensordecedor y tuve necesariamente que hacer el gasto en el repuesto, lo que me tomo todo el fin de semana reunir el dinero para entonces ayer hacer finalmente hacer el cambio de pieza.
Mientras esperaba que llegara la pieza y el mecánico se pusiera manos a la obra para realizar la reparación del carro, fui a desayunar en una cafetería justo al frente y después de desayunar me detuve a ver con calma la avenida y alli estaba esta magnífica Iglesia de la Virgen de La Chiquinquirá. Esta catedral siempre me ha maravillado porque si bien se terminó de construir y fue consagrada en 1958, su estilo tiene ese aire de una arquitectura medieval en todo el centro urbano de la ciudad de Caracas. Y no es de extrañar, los arquitectos la construyeron con un estilo gótico-románico y es la razón de su imponencia, que claramente puedes verla estando muy lejos.

Sin embargo, la razón que me llevó a fotografiarla con mi móvil, no fue tanto su origen por monjes capuchinos o su parecido a una fortaleza medieval. Fueron los recuerdos que me trajo, porque en esta iglesia también se levantó un Colegio llamado San Antonio de La Florida, esto es algo muy común en las iglesias parroquiales de Caracas, suelen dar mucha importancia a los valores y la educación. Lo cierto es que en ese colegio estudiaba mi mejor amigo en la secundaria, yo estudiaba en otro colegio pero como vivimos en el mismo edificio siempre nos encontrábamos en su colegio cuando mi padre nos buscaba. Muchas veces nos reuníamos aquí después de clases para ir a jugar arcades, horas interminables disfrutando esos tiempos libres después de clases, eran sin duda otros tiempos, menos caóticos como los de ahora que parecen un capítulo bizarro de Black Mirrow.
Al final del día, colocaron el tubo de escape en el carro pero ahora tengo que cambiar también el silenciador lo más pronto posible, así que todavía mis finanzas están amarradas con el mantenimiento de mi auto, pero tenemos tiempo para la próxima quincena conseguir los recursos para comprarlo. Cuando ya nos íbamos del taller aproveché para tomar una fotografía del frente de la iglesia, donde solía encontrarme con mi amigo a la salida de clases.
