Talk to Me is an Australian supernatural horror movie that explores the themes of trauma, grief, addiction, peer pressure, and dangers of the unknown. It centers on a group of teenagers who discover a severed hand that enables them to conjure spirits and even get possessed. The center of attraction being Mia, a 17 years old teenager still grappling with the death of her mother. As the teenagers venture into murky waters with this embalmed hand, they take it to social media, daring enough to break the rules at some point.

This thrilling horror film was laid back. It is something you watch during the weekend after a week of back breaking work. It was relaxing to me, nothing like the others that had too much blood or too many jump scares. Teenagers as the focus, we all know that this is the age to explore and do dumb stuff. Being a teenager can be exciting until it becomes way too much.

This movie was nothing like I expected. The twist at the end when I realised that Mia finally followed her mother to the world of the dead was unlike any other. Like I said, it was relaxing but it was stimulating with just enough gruesome scenes to make this into a horror film. It was well paced, going from ‘lit parties’ to teenage gossip and finally, the thrill of the unknown.

The soundtracks were so on point. Especially the theme song. Like someone said, it gave ‘happy serial killer vibes’ only this time, the killers and takers were invisible and sinister. See, you gotta love and hate Mia. She started the whole thing with breaking rules. Not only that, being irresponsible enough to pull along the innocent. But that is what being a teenager is about: doing dumb stuff. Mia was out of her mind, and while she made me really angry, she was nothing but a teenager taken by grief.

Was there anything I disliked about this movie? Not really. Maybe because I was really relaxed when watching it with zero expectations but, given this is supernatural horror, I’d say they did pretty good with the plot. It was slower than the horrors I have watched but it was all worth the wait. If I were to rate this movie, I would give it a 7.5/10. I loved the sound track more than anything though.
