3 Underrated Gifts.

It is so easy to forget all about the little things that used to make us smile when so many other things have sprung up and taken our attention. As the world evolved, humans became wiser, better and ultimately greedier. Nothing became enough and eventually, we get so carried away chasing what we don’t have we fail to recognise what we have. Mind you, there was a time when many of the things we have now were only a distant dream. Now though, we have it, we take it for granted and chase what seems more crucial.

This is what ultimately led me to think about some blessings or –as I like to recollect them– gifts that I may have taken for granted. Everyone, or let us say, most people may be facing a hard time right now with one thing or the other. I am not exempted. However, this is the best time to be grateful. Now, more than ever, I find things that anchor me and my heart to this beautiful life.

The Gift of Air.

Being able to wake up, draw air without having to pay for it or get a burning sensation in your lungs, is one of the most underrated gifts we have as humans. Yeah, even now it seems like I’m babbling nonsense, but trust me, you can’t live without the air you breathe. You have air, the ability to get it into your body and then, get your body moving – chasing those dreams and making that money. However, there are people who wake up with the painful realisation that air is all around them but they need oxidised air – they pay to live.

The Gift of Excretion.

Have you ever been constipated? Not able to pass stool for a certain period? Well, there are more serious cases, fecal impaction being one of them. This is prolonged inability to pass faeces, and many of us relieve ourselves so easily we have no idea what the smaller number in this population pass through. Once, only once, did I experience the pain of this condition. I experienced constant nausea, dizziness, pains in my stomach coupled with the fact I could not sleep. There was no possible way to have a good night's sleep. I had to be taken to the hospital and fortunately, it was taken care of. This just made me understand that this is another gift we take for granted.

The Gift of Movement.

Ever been confined to a place for months? How about days? When I say confined I mean you can’t move a muscle. It is a scary feeling. Not being able to move or control your body. When you have been used to control all the time. However, many won’t know what this is. The few who understand either had their movement taken away or they never had it at all. Like someone I know said, it really can happen to anyone.

So, no matter how hard things may be or how hard it gets, it always pays to dwell on the present and be grateful while sorting out whatever the problem may be.

Grateful is something many people seem to overlook, while going through the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. These three things, because we're so used to them, appear almost insignificant. Like you said, we all need to embrace gratefulness for the little things we have access to.
