Nothing is Guaranteed...
By the time you read this, it will be old news, but I am still reeling from the wave of emotions that is hitting me after the dissolution of the BRO community. Sure, I've seen some posts that the community is still kicking, but whether it has been infiltrated or simply changed gears, it isn't the same place I once called home for the past couple of years.
As long as HIVE has been around and even before we forked from that other chain, Discord has been the unofficial back channel of the blockchain. As much as it bugs some people who think conversations like the ones that happen on Discord should take place in the open on chain, as a whole we haven't been able to make the transition.
So these discussions, decisions, and interactions continue to take place on Discord, and the majority of major communities and tokens on HIVE have their own server with multiple channels.
The BRO community was a wonderful amalgamation of users from all over the world who laughed, yelled, complained, uplifted, and any other number of things on any given day. It was a vibrant community that evolved over the years and was built on the idea that people should have a voice even if you didn't agree with it. It was a form of support and a wonderful place to call home.
Of all the emotions I feel, I think sad is the biggest. Sure, it sucks that my BRO and LGN tokens are now virtually worthless, but I think what I am going to miss the most is the community that we had built there on the BRO server.
I'm not going to get into a ton of details, if you want to check out the HIVE Discord, you can get an idea of what went down. I'm also not going to make this post a rant against Ray the leader of BRO despite what you might read otherwise from their account.
If anything I just want to express how concerned I am for Ray and his family. This recent behavior and direction shift of the community as well as the exile of many of the long time users is very uncharacteristic for him. In fact, @themarkymark has seen his fair share of crazy shit on the blockchain over the years and don't quote me, but I think even this shook him a little.
There is a lot of speculation about what might be going on behind he scenes. I'm also not going to get into that because honestly until someone is able to sit down and talk to Ray face to face and get the real story, it is all just speculation.
I think if anything this whole scenario is just a stark reminder of how superficial the connections we make here on HIVE (or Discord) are. I have a lot of respect for the folks that are able to make it to HiveFest and the meet ups that take place through the year. At least then you can put a face on the name. However, no matter how well you think you know that person in Discord, or how often you talk to them through the year, the truth is, you don't really know them. You don't know shit.
I don't typically use such harsh language in my public facing posts, but as I said, this has me shook and all of these emotions are bubbling to the surface.
@dbooster and I have been talking about creating a new Discord server where folks that were recently kicked out of BRO can group together. Of course we would invite others to join as well in hopes of recreating what BRO was when it was running well. This is still a very early thing, but it's always a possibility.
Even if some new community never comes together, I appreciate the time spent with many of you in the BRO Discord. The laughs, disagreements, shared outrage, and connections have been amazing. It's sad to see things end the way they did. I can't help feel like I did something wrong to earn my exile from the community, but I know that isn't healthy. If I did something wrong, that means all the others who got booted did something wrong as well, and that is highly unlikely.
I'm sorry if you got burned by holding BRO or LGN. Please know, this shouldn't be a reflection on the members of the community as a whole. I also urge you to exercise extreme caution if you choose to interact with the BRO community that still exists. It really feels like it has been compromised whether from outside sources or more personal mental health issues.
I truly hope everyone is okay after all of this. Hopefully we all heal and learn from our mistakes.

A new server isn't a horrible idea. As a veterans there is something real to trauma bonding :)

Such a sad turn of events. Honestly, Hive is going downhill from multiple sides, DHF, now this and way more if we do a thorough research over the years. I don't know whether we need a new discord or something but we definitely need, for once, to get together and try to make Hive great again :P A lot of us are here forever and love Hive, and we have some brilliant people in here as well.
I don't think HIVE Is perfect, but there is a lot of good stuff happening here. Things like this don't help at all. I'm here for the long haul as well.
My feeling over the years is that we do not follow any specific "plan" let's say. Everyone does their thing, most end up pretty bad, and accountability is nowhere. We both like Hive, that's why we are still here with the good and bad but i think it's time already as a community to focus together on how to make Hive greater. We can start with DHF as we know the issues. I read on Discord that people gathered to talk about it but still everything remained in talks :P
It's going to take the people at the top wanting change for there to actually be change I think.

There is power in numbers, but like you said, we all have to be working together for it to work.
It's always a risk with these single point of issuance tokens, I've been steering clear of them for the most part.

I do feel for you as you put your trust in someone and they betrayed it. It's not just a financial loss. I hope you can get the good people back together somewhere. If anything this emphasises the issues with things like Discord where one person can shut it all down. Maybe it will encourage improvement of our decentralised options.

What a shame that it all fell apart like it did... I was fortunate that I had pulled out and sold my tokens when I got the first warning flags of odd behavior on his part. I'm sorry to all of you guys who lost a fortune on those tokens losing all value. That really sucks...
I would love to join a community with you guys over on Discord, even though I was never all that into to the BRO community. It's something that's of value to many of us!
It is very true you never know anyone just from Discord. I've seen so many things implode lately and it's really sad, and mental illness may be the culprit on this one. I just don't know him well enough to even really make a guess. It's a shame that it hurt you guys so much, that should never happen. Life really does have no guarantees, the older I've gotten the better I understand that principle. Hopefully this will be the last of the implosions for the foreseeable future...

I was wondering last night who had tokens in BRO etc.
I went to the Hive discord yesterday for proof of some great news I had heard and wanted to make sure it was true. That was the cancellation of the sketch af Vibes project/money pit.
Instead I saw marky saying about Ray and then it going on and on. I remember TraciYork taking me to the BRO server not long after I joined Hive to meet Ray a fellow Scot. Well the welcome I got made me not invest in anything going on there.
It is extremely sad, I do know Hivers who were close to him and he treated them incredibly well.

Thanks, it's been a bit of a whirlwind over the past day. I'm still trying to unpack all of it. I'm also sorry you had that experience. I actually held off on joining the server for a while because of some of the people who were in there.
Yeah I am a gut instinct guy and that has got me out of a few wars over the years, so yeah online or offline I still trust my gut.
Even though I am not affected at all I am still saddened by it all. He was the great saviour to a lot of people, including some I know really well.
This is really tough, and to think I just got to know about the community a few months back. If something this serious was going on behind the scenes, then what were all the updates in riddles meant for?

Yeah, I don't think any of us have any real answers for all of it. It's just sad.
It has been very sad to the community first turn to the strange, and then we end up with this apparent "collapse into madness," or whatever it is.

I'm not interested in finger-pointing and the blame game; in the crypto world it almost always feels like it's a game of juggling knives, and when you willingly choose to be a knife juggler you don't get to whine about cutting yourself. Figuratively speaking.
A few weeks ago I was really mad because I had to sell most of my BRO to help fund a tax bill... now I find myself glad that I derived some benefit while the going was good.
Just goes to show how uncertain life really is.

I had a thought since Splinterlands cards went very very cheap . Hive should the only token I get involved in . Everything else is just fluff so I sold all my hive engine stuff for swap hive and I was right so far ( don’t look at the hive price )
