Although I tried to play things by ear when @mrsbozz and I took our recent trip to Wisconsin, there were a few things that I knew ahead of time we needed to do. The first was the guided cruise around the Apostle Islands that I have already posted about. The other thing I knew I wanted to fit in was a quick drive over to Duluth Minnesota. It's not that there was anything special I wanted to see in Duluth, but since we were only about an hour or so away from the Wisconsin/Minnesota border, I thought it might be cool to run over there. Plus, that way we would be able to add two states to our travel map instead of just one.
After we got to Wisconsin, I did a bit of research and I discovered that there was a pretty cool place called Enger Park that had an observation tower. I figured that was as good a place as any to start, so I punched it into Google Maps, and we were on our way. @mrsbozz took some photos as we made our way over. There are two main routes from Bayfield, WI to Duluth, MN. The quickest one takes you back south to Ashland, WI, and then pretty much straight across US-2 to the town of Superior, Wisconsin that sits just on the other side of the St. Louis River from Duluth.
The other route takes you north, through the Red Cliff Indian Reservation and along the coast of Lake Superior. We decided to take the northern route.
It was pretty foggy when we started out, but that seemed to be a pretty typical thing being right on the shores of Lake Superior. As we drove and the sun started to burn away the fog, things really cleared up for us. Eventually, we made our way over to Duluth. Shout out to my wife for taking most of the photos while I was driving. She did a great job.
It actually took a bit of time to get through Superior, WI and over into Minnesota, but @mrsbozz took as many photos as she could while I was navigating the traffic. I will just let them speak for themselves.
We made our way through the waterfront district of Duluth and then up into an area that used to be called Grand Mountain. That's where Enger Park sits looking down onto the cities of Duluth and Superior as well as the river and Lake Superior.
Despite having just spent the last hour or so in the truck, we opted not to climb the multitude of stairs to the top of the tower. It might have been cool to get the view from higher up, but I have a feeling it wasn't really much different than the views we got from down at the bottom of the tower.
Although we didn't climb the tower, we did walk around the rest of the park. They had a couple of areas that were heavily inspired by their sister city of Ohara in Chiba Japan.
We walked around the rest of the park, which was pretty packed for the middle of the day on a Friday. People were there eating lunch, doing work while they looked out across the skyline, and just strolling along enjoying the beautiful day we had been blessed with. It's a pretty cool place and if you ever make your way to Duluth Minnesota, I highly recommend you check out Enger park. Let me know how the view is from the top of the tower!

I love that park. The last time I was there it was foggy too. My wife and I were thinking about heading up there for a weekend trip before the chill sets in but if I make it to Duluth I'm so tempted to go further north.
I haven't gotten to it yet in my post, but Duluth was just kind of meh for us besides the park. We really enjoyed Superior across the river a bit more. I'm sure if we had been able to go further north we would have loved that too.
Duluth, as a whole, isn’t what it used to be. They have real problems with crime, homelessness, and drug addiction. It was just like a college town up until about a decade ago but it’s changed drastically since then.
Oh, that's too bad. The downtown area seemed kind of nice but it was pretty congested and we had our big truck.
I see many nice rounded pebbles in the ZEN garden, great for kindness rocks hahaha. Just kidding, I would just enjoy the moment there and wouldn't pick any rocks, although I do have some rocks picked for me and brought to me from your continent 😉
Mrs Bozz did a great job with the photos. When we go on a trip, it is usually my husband who drives and sometimes he tells me to take a few photos when we see something interesting, but I don't do it... as my photos from the car are always bad, so I just enjoy the views without even trying to take any pictures.
My wife feels the same way about her photos. Either that or I don't speak up quick enough and she misses the shot!

That's an awesome tower! I would have been hesitant to climb it, too, now that I am older. And that bell is beautiful! Thanks for making pics of the plaque so we could read its history! Nice pics of the two of you as well! 😊
Thanks! She is getting better for sure. I can't say as though I would do much better if she were driving. That little river leads out to Lake Superior. It was a really cool area.
