Early Christmas Presents
As many other posts have mentioned, today is Black Friday in the US. This is the gluttonous consumer driven "holiday" where people head out to fight the crowds and score what they have been told is a good deal on some particular item. @dbooster wrote a really good post about it the other day and you should check it out if you haven't already.
I've never really participated in the Black Friday rush. There was one year that I stood in front of a record store for a while to participate in their sale, but other than that, I usually find myself at home in bed when others are out in the madness.
For many years now, @mrsbozz and I have not bought Christmas presents for each other. With it just being the two of us, we quickly realize we were buying stuff just to buy stuff to give each other, not because we really needed it. While I know it is the thought that counts, it just seemed wasteful for us to keep doing that.
This year however was a little different. Our clothes washer and dryer have been on their last legs for a while now. I've tore them apart and replaced parts here and there, but they were still just limping along. The other night I noticed the dryer was making a horrible grinding noise. I got up and discovered that the drum had completely pulled away from the back part of the dryer.
I knew it was time to finally replace it and since we were struggling with both of them we decided to replace them both. Just about a week ago I pulled everything out and got everything disconnected so the delivery driver could bring the new ones and get them all hooked up. So this year when people ask us what we got for Christmas, the answer will be "a new washer and dryer!".
Silver
Additionally, I started receiving some of the silver pieces that I picked up from APMEX in the mail the other day. The first piece I am going to share with you is this John Wick themed Continental piece. The side with the lion has Latin that says "Ens Causa Sui" which apparently translates to "Being for it's own sake".
On the other side, we have what I thought was blind justice, but I don't think that is correct. I'm sure someone that has gotten into the "lore" of John Wick probably knows more than me here. It also has Latin that says "Ex Unitae Vires" which translates to "from united forces". Whatever the theme, it is 1 oz of .999 fine silver and I am still trying to decide if I am going to add it to my collection or give it to my nephew.
He is still a bit young, so I am not sure how familiar he is with the John Wick franchise. I hope he hasn't seen it yet, but these days you never know. Kids get to watch all kinds of stuff I didn't when I was younger!
Hive Gifts
I've started looking into moving some of my HBD off the chain to purchase a new smart watch for myself. I discovered that New Egg takes Bitpay, and since my current fitness tracker is starting to die, I think I want to use some of my earnings after eight years here on HIVE to buy something for myself. I really want to get a Garmin watch that can track my heartrate. I've known a few people who have had heart attacks quite young, so tracking my heart health is a big deal to me.
Likewise, I have been thinking about spending some HIVE in a private deal with someone here on HIVE to buy some more silver. This will be the first time I can remember using my HIVE outside of the HIVE ecosystem. It's kind of a big deal for me because I always prided myself on how dedicated I am to this chain.
I know it will likely impact my KE ratio, but I just want people to know, I am still dedicated to the chain and this is just a small way of treating myself for all of my hard work. HIVE is still my home and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.
Everything Else
As far as the markets (both traditional and crypto), I'm not going to talk much about those this week. Things are still just kind of slogging along and right now I think there are more important things this time of year to focus on besides whether the market is up or down. We are officially in the holiday season now in the US, and I hope this is a blessed one for you and your family!

Washer and dryer replacement doesn't come cheap, that's an expensive Christmas present! But they are one of those items it's hard to live without in this day and age.

Yeah, I am thinking it was a good move to buy that silver. We did a bit of running this morning and then we are just chilling this afternoon. Also got the house all Christmas-fied this morning. I'm looking at the Garmin Forerunner 165 I think it is.
I think you are entitled to spend some of what you have earned here. I don't judge people on that if they do good for the community. I also get that you have to spend money where it actually does some good, like new appliances. We don't all need new toys all the time and these sales encourage us to spend on stuff we wouldn't get otherwise. I try to resist.
Yeah, we went out and got groceries today, but that is about it. I might get around and buy my smart watch today. I have to get these comments pounded out first!
I used previous black fridays for music production plugins so not really contributed to consumerism ahah
But this year I want to build my own pc and I had to surrender to the rush and get those deals for single hardware components.
They have some good deals today on bits and pieces for computers. If I didn't already have a nice computer at work I would probably be tempted too. I did buy some monitors the other day for a really good deal.

A very practical gift for both of you. Neither my girlfriend or myself really buy things for ourselves, so I really enjoy buying her stuff. I benefit from some of them as well, like a new perfume. A good purchase for the home and it is great to be able to buy yourselves something you really need. I stopped buying appliances 2 years ago as the constant power cuts kept on breaking the appliances so I just rent mine and let them worry about repairs and replacements. We don't have those power cuts due to solar now, but it is still convenient to keep on renting for now.
I would probably feel differently if we had the power issues that you do there. The units we had before this came with the house when we bought it over a decade ago. These ones will likely stay with the house when we sell it. In fact, a lot of people usually write that into the purchase agreement.
A new washer and dryer may not sound exciting to some people, but honestly that’s such a smart Christmas gift—useful every single day.

This post is really messing with my OCD. In my 70 years on this planet, I have never seen a washing machine to the right of the dryer; in every house and apartment where I have lived, the washing machine has always been on the left and the dryer has consistently been on the right. 😂
Anyway... good for you and Mrs. Bozz not bowing to rampant consumerism and getting something for yourselves that you really need! Newer machines are usually more efficient than older ones, so you might see a drop in utility bill costs as well as have some peace-of-mind not having to repair them so often! So happy for you! 😊
Do you live south of the equator? Maybe it's similar to the Coriolis effect... :) I know my inlaws have their set up the same as ours. In our old house I think the dryer was on the left as well. If we ever redid this area, I would probably put the dryer on the right just so I could vent it directly to an outside wall. We've already seen a difference in how many times we have to run the dryer, so I think we will definitely see some cost savings.
I don't live south of the equator (LOL!), but I'm south of the Mason-Dixon Line, maybe that's what does it. 🤣 That's wonderful that you've already seen a slight difference! Small things add up! 🙂

This made me laugh but mainly because i'm the same way but in reverse. Maybe however the setup is when you are a kid is how you think it aught to be. Here in Vietnam the washer dryer setup is always them stacked on top of one another but that is because everything is front loaders here and we are also really pressed for space.
That being said I really miss the sturdy top-loading washers that I have never seen in SE Asia. Those agitators in those brands are second to none.

We've been getting our money's worth out of the washer and dryer already. It's only been a week, but we had a lot of laundry to get caught up on. Thankfully, we didn't have to take Latin at my school. I probably would have failed!

Yes good thing you didn't have to. We were talking about that recently, as we did not have one in town. Planning permission was denied a few years ago to have fast machines put into a carpark of a local supermarket...

They have been installed recently! Great for duvets/comforters etc..

They used to be in buildings, but now they have these places around the country. We have no snow etc so easy enough to keep in a good condition.

I do love appliances but have been out of that game for many years. I made a pact with my family in the early 2000's that we were no longer going to buy Christmas presents for one another. There was a secret santa party I was invited to here but I had play scrooge because I don't want to do that and just decided to not go to the party.
I don't blame you for that. I don't really exchange gifts with my family anymore either. There are a whole lot of reasons for it, but mostly we were tired of buying stuff just to buy stuff.
I think it was a family decision made something like 20 years ago. We were all getting together once a year and wasting money buying things for people out of a sense of obligation. It was a total waste because we didn't really know what our family members want or need. I think the straw that broke the camel's back was when me and two of my siblings all got my mom the same book thinking it was somthing she liked. She got 3 of them and as it turned out she already owned the book also. We donated them to the local library and then I think we sat down and agreed that we weren't going to do that anymore but instead would just buy some food or drinks for all of us to share together at our gatherings.
I will admit not having gifts was a bit of a letdown at first, but it was the right choice.
It sounds like you did make a very good choice. Some people need gifts to make them feel loved, but we are not like that.
