Working it out

It was a rough weekend for the Radford Highlanders down in North Carolina. They were playing in the Campbell University Tournament and they started their weekend off with a game against Iowa. That's right Big Ten Conference Iowa. It's pretty crazy to see our niece playing against these power conference teams. Of course, even at Tiffin our other niece played against teams like Ohio State, so we shouldn't be that surprised.
Radford had a pretty impressive year last year taking their conference regular season title and nearly making it to the NCAA tournament. They were also ranked pretty high in the pre-season rankings this year. I know it's probably too early to tell how the full season is going to go, but I think it is safe to say they have been struggling a bit. It's nothing to be concerned about, but I know it has to be a bit stressful and frustrating for the staff and the players.
They lost their first game against Iowa 11 to 3, then faced a Miami of Ohio team that handed them a 7 to 1 loss. The next day they went up against Miami of Ohio again and fell 10 to 2, before facing Iowa once more and losing 4 to 0. Finally, on the last day of the tournament they battled Campbell, but sadly were denied a victory losing 13 to 5.
Our niece didn't get to play a ton over the weekend which is kind of frustrating for us, but I know it is probably more frustrating for her. They start back up on Friday this week with an invitational over at Liberty University where we watched her play this past fall. They face Liberty in a double header on Friday, then Marshall University on Saturday before going head to head with Connecticut that night. Finally, on Sunday they face UConn one more time before heading home. I hope they can have a good weekend and I hope that our niece gets a chance to see more time on the field. I think she has the potential to be a key player for the team if she is just given the chance.
The problem is, as a freshman it can be hard to earn a spot. Being blunt though, at this point they can't do much worse.
Tiffin University has been off for a week or so, but they start things back up early next week with a Monday game against West Virginia Wesleyan College, and then a game that same day against Davenport University in the USSSA Space Coast Tournament. Tuesday they face St. Cloud State University, and then University of Charleston before a Thursday double header against Saint Leo University which isn't part of the tournament.
I'm looking forward to seeing if Tiffin and take their momentum from last season and carry it forward into this one. They have had their share of adversities already, but I think they are going to pull things together and have a great year.
