Just like that, the AUSL season has come to an end. I'm not quite sure what I am going to do with softball being all done for at least a few months. The good news is, I can still check out the end of the Little League Softball World Series, and then the baseball version of that will be kicking into full gear as well. It's always fun watching kids compete at a high level like that. I also think it's pretty cool the bonds those kids make from the players and teams from other countries.
The other good news is the fact that volleyball and football season should be right around the corner now. In fact, I have a feeling we are just about a month away from some of the first college football games being televised.
As I said, though, this post is about softball, so here we go.
You might recall on Thursday last week there was a play in game for the championship. Chicago was facing off against Portland to see who would face Utah in the finals. It was a close game, but Chicago edged out Portland 6 to 5 to earn their spot in the finals.
They then got a day break before the action kicked off on Saturday.
It was a very tight game, but Utah took down Chicago 2 to 1. That took us into Sunday where Chicago had to win or go home. If they won, it would have forced a game three on Monday (today), but Utah came in hot and were able to take down Chicago 6 to 1 to win their second championship in a row.
A fun fact would be the point that even with the two runs they gave up in the post season, I think Utah still finished the season having give up less than 100 runs. That's pretty impressive. It looks like the total number is something like 76 runs allowed. Pretty impressive. Like I said last week, that speaks a ton to this teams defensive chops.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the AUSL next year and then after that we have the olympics to look forward to. It's going to be awesome to see softball in the olympic games again!
