That's a streak!

Of course if you get the chance, watching softball live is the way to go (unless it's the middle of summer and the temperature is hotter than the surface of the sun), but now that we can watch some of our nieces games on ESPN+, that is a nice alternative. Unfortunately, for some stupid reason that isn't always the case.

For example, when we were down in Radford on Saturday, the baseball team and the softball team both had games. We found out (from our niece) that they weren't broadcasting the games on Saturday because they were broadcasting the baseball games instead. Which seems funny that they can only do one or the other, but who knows. What makes it even more interesting is that the baseball field is right behind the softball field, and the baseball game didn't even start until halfway through the second softball game.

At the very least I think they could have easily broadcast the first softball game, but what do I know.

When the games aren't broadcast, we are forced to resort to the old style box score to see what is happening with the game. They publish this online and it's pretty easy to follow once you get the hang of it, but it also makes of a pretty quiet experience with just text changing on your screen.

This is how we had to follow the Radford Softball games on Tuesday night, and wouldn't you know it, that would be the night that our niece finally made it into the starting line up. She had gotten a bit of playing time in the first game, in which she hit a double. I am guessing that was good enough for the coach to give her a shot in the second game.

She did fantastic too! She got walked a couple times, she laid down a magnificent bunt (I'm guessing anyway) that put her on first base and advanced the other runners to load the bases. She also had a bunch of defensive put outs in the second base position. I'd really love to see her smack the piss out of the ball like I know she can, but I think she just needs to gain back some confidence and that will come.

The Highlanders ended up getting an extra inning win 3-2 in the first game and then they got a run rule victory in the second game 10 to 1. I just wish we had been able to see the video of it.

That puts the Highlanders on a five game winning streak as they head into a weekend series against Charleston Southern with one game on Friday and a double header on Saturday. Once again these games won't be broadcast for some stupid reason even though they are home games. I guess baseball must be taking priority again...

Congratulations to your niece!

What a beautiful place to watch sport. It's great to go to the mega stadiums with 10s of thousands of fans but I can imagine having a really relaxing day sitting in the early Spring sunshine at that ground just chilling with the family.

Yeah, it was really cool! Thanks. They have a great facility there and I think their season is shaping up to be really good.
