That Spring Chill

I got the chance to go watch my nephew play baseball the other day. Despite how nice of a day it looks, it was actually quite cold. By the end of the second game (it was a double header), we were absolutely freezing! Which is kind of funny because we were even wearing our winter coats, but it was absolutely brutal.
Even with the weather not being so cooperative, our nephews team was able to pull off a couple of wins to get the sweep. They won the first game in a shut out, and then the second game was a thrilling come from behind victory. Our nephew played really well getting a couple of put outs and knocking in a couple of RBI's as well.
Meanwhile, in basketball news, the Pistons were able to finish their first post season series in seven games with a fantastic win over the Magic. They are currently up two games in the next series over Cleveland. It's still too early to say if they are going to go the distance, but things are looking pretty good. I even found myself watching game seven against the Magic and I haven't watched an NBA game in I can't remember how long.
Meanwhile, the conference tournaments continue to chug along in college softball. Over in the ACC, number 8 Florida State took out Georgia Tech, number 19 Stanford sent number 24 Louisville home, number 13 Duke smashed North Carolina 16 to 8, and number 15 Virginia Tech beat Virginia 3 to 1.
As I said yesterday, the Big Twelve tournament got started yesterday with Kansas upsetting number 21 UCF 6 to 5, number 4 Texas Tech once again blanked Baylor 7 to 0, number 14 Oklahoma State did the same thing against Utah 7 to 0, and number 23 Arizona State slipped past number 20 Arizona 2 to 1.
In the Big South tournament, Radford had a tough lost 1 to 0 against USC Upstate to move the Highlanders down to the secondary bracket. It was a really tight game and there is a point where our niece was pinch running and the coach had her stop at third base. I think if he had sent her she could have made it home, but hindsight is 20/20 right?
Gardner-Webb lost to the Winthrop team that took the regular season championship. Then in the late game, Radford had to play an elimination game against Presbyterian. The Highlanders ended up winning the game 10 to 0 in five innings after a fantastic shut out by Cooper on the mound and a two home run game by their ace pitcher Redmon. One of the home runs was a grand slam!
They now face Gardner-Webb today in another elimination game.
In the Big Ten Tournament Indiana sent Washington home 9 to 2, number 2 Nebraska bested Michigan 4 to 2, Wisconsin had a huge upset over number 10 Oregon 11 to 9, and number 11 UCLA beat Penn State 6 to 1.
Finally, in the SEC Tournament, number 9 Florida barely beat Auburn 10 to 9, number 3 Alabama beat number 5 Arkansas 7 to 1, Ole Miss was sent home by number 6 Texas in a 6 to 0 shut out, and in an absolute stunner, number 12 Georgia beat number 1 Oklahoma 10 to 5.
I look forward to following the excitement today as things start to heat up in the later rounds of the tournaments.
