Starting Over

The Tiffin Dragons were able to extend their winning streak to an impressive eleven games before they fell to Thomas More University in the final game of their double header this past weekend. Although I don't have as much of a vested interest in the team as I used to, the coaching staff is still really close with our niece. Plus, she is still quite close with a lot of the players on the team, so she still goes back to visit and cheer them on occasionally.
It probably helps that she has to be on campus once per week for some of her classes that are not virtual. We were talking to her the other day, and although she misses playing, she doesn't regret the decision she made to focus on finishing her degree and being a mom full time versus trying to fit a softball career into the picture as well.
It was a very adult decision for a young lady that has only has a few years under her belt as an adult.
The weekend started off with a double header on Saturday against Kentucky Wesleyan College. They won the first game 7 to 0, and then they run ruled or "mercied" the other team 13 to 1 in 5 innings in the second game. It's pretty cool to see the team that Coach Paige has been building over the past few years really come together. When she started she still had some scholarship players from the old coach that she had to deal with, but now the roster is filling in with players that were hand picked by her and her staff.
Fun fact, our nieces younger sister was actually recruited to play for the Dragons as well, but understandably she didn't want to live in her older sisters shadow and wanted to pave her own way in a different area of the country. No shame there!
The double header on Sunday started out well for Tiffin with them taking down Thomas More University 15 to 1 in five innings with a run rule victory in the first game. Unfortunately, in the second game they fell short losing 6 to 5. It's funny how you can be so dominant in one game and then fall short in the next one. Kind of like bowling or any other sport I guess.
They have just a handful of series left before they head into the end of the season. I think this recent setback is just minor and they are going to finish strong to perhaps set themselves up for a deep run in the post season. I'd love to see them fight their way through the Division II tournament.
