Short Week

I can't say for sure yet, but this might end up being my last sports post for the week. With the Independence Day holiday right around the corner, I'm going to be out of my office after today. I'd like to say this four day weekend is going to be relaxing, but that couldn't be further from the truth. My wife has family in town for the holiday and we will likely be spending the majority of our time out of the house visiting with them.

Friday I am going golfing apparently. Like real golfing, not disc golfing. This will be the first time I have gone in close to ten years, so hopefully I can take a break from sucking too much to take some photos and write a post about it.

With the 4th of July right around the corner, that also means that the MLB trade deadline is fast approaching. How many big moves will we see in the next month before we hit that August 3rd mark? I remember back when I followed baseball a little more closely, there were some stunning moves made in this small window.

Whatever happens, baseball will continue, and that brings us to the current standings as of this morning.

Tampa Bay has reclaimed their spot at the top of the American League with a winning record of 49 games. That puts them one above the 48 wins that the Yankees have. The Rays have the Tigers to thank for part of that I think. Rounding out the rest of the AL East, we have Toronto with 40 wins, Baltimore with 39 wins, and Boston with 37 wins.

In the AL Central, the White Sox hold the top spot with 45 wins. Then we have Cleveland with 44 wins, Minnesota with 41, and finally Detroit with 37 and Kansas City holding up the rear with 35. That recent slide makes KC the worst team in the AL.

In the AL West, we have Texas at the top with 44 wins followed by Seattle also with 44 wins. Then Houston with 43, The Athletics with 40, and finally The Angels close the pack with 36 wins. It's honestly a bit scary to think that the Detroit Tigers are only two wins away from being the worst team in the AL. Hopefully their recent success is a slow climb up the hill to a late season rally.

In the National League the Dodgers have started to widen the gap with a massive 56 wins to put them on top. The rest of the NL West consists of San Diego with 43 wins, Arizona also with 43 wins, San Francisco with 35 wins, and Colorado still coming in last in the whole MLB with 33 wins.

The NL Central sees Milwaukee on top with 52 wins, with the Cubs a ways behind them at 48 wins. Next up we have St. Louis with 44 wins, Pittsburgh with 43 wins, and Cincinnati with 39 wins.

Finally, in the NL East we see Atlanta on top with 49 wins, Philadelphia is right behind them at 48 wins, and Miami is chasing them both with 46 wins. Washington is staying close with 44 wins, and then we have the Mets way down there with 36 wins. That's a tight race in the NL East!
