Rolling Along

The AUSL continues to roll along with plenty of games happening to keep us occupied. Actually, it's kind of weird having only six teams to keep track of instead of however many college teams there are or something like the MLB where you have a 30 or more teams battling it out at any given time. I'm actually really bummed that I am not going to be able to see my niece play ball at all this summer, but the schedules didn't work out for it to happen. Perhaps things will be different in the fall.
There have been some pretty amazing series happening over the past few days and we got the chance to see the end of one of them on Friday night as we were settling down from a busy day of camping. I'll get to that in a second though.
First, we have the Thursday action where Utah took down Carolina 3 to 2. Then on Friday, Utah shut out Carolina 3 to 0. The real excitement was in the late game though when Portland faced off against Texas. Texas was leading the game 1 to 0 until late in the game when the Portland offense came alive and quickly put five runs on the board for them. At that point it was just a matter of the Portland pitching holding off the Volt offense. Which they did and the final score was Portland 5, Texas 1.
On Saturday all teams were active with Utah finally taking a loss against Carolina 6 to 1, Chicago hammered Oklahoma City in to oblivion 14 to 0, and Portland had another strong game against Texas 6 to 3.
On Sunday there were only two games with Portland once again taking down Texas 5 to 2, and Chicago handed Oklahoma City a 8 to 6 loss. Finally, on Monday, Carolina hit a late game grand slam to move past Oklahoma City 5 to 4.
There are two games on tonight as Portland moves on to Chicago and Texas takes on Utah.
Current standings have Utah on top with a record of 10-4, Portland slides in to second place with a 8-4 record, and then Carolina in third at 7-5. Wrapping up the bottom is Chicago with a 6-7 (did you say it that way in your head?) record, Oklahoma City in fifth place at 5-9, and Texas bringing up the rear at 3-10.
That isn't really accurate though because in the AUSL, they celebrate the individual athletes and stats are based less on the team and more on the players.
