One Week Left

It's a bit hard to believe, but the conference tournaments are just around the corner for the NCAA men's basketball players. In fact, the women's tournament has already started in the Big Ten and several other conferences across the nation. If you want to get really technical, the men's conference tournaments have started as well, but it's more of non power division I conferences. For example, on Monday this past week Norfolk State took on Morgan State, IU Indy faced Cleveland State, and South Carolina State went up against Delaware State.

There were a bunch of other games too, but those are the first ones listed on my site.

More locally, the district where I work had both the boys and girls teams make it to district finals. The boys team were able to win the district, but got beat last night in the first game of regionals. The girls team on the other hand were not so lucky, the lost their game. Spring is right around the corner, and even now I am watching the World Baseball Classic on one of the screens in my office. Japan is currently decimating China Taipei in a 13 to 0 rout at the top of the seventh inning. I'll give you all the updates on this amazing event next week.

It looks like there were only about two games this past Monday in the top 25. Duke finds themselves in the number 1 spot right now and they easily beat North Carolina State 93 to 64. Arizona now sits in the number 2 spot and they took down number 6 Iowa State 73 to 57.

There were something like 12 games in the top 25 on Tuesday and a couple of them were some pretty significant upsets. Georgia got things started taking down number 16 Alabama 98 to 88, number 19 Miami of Ohio remained undefeated squeaking past Toledo 74 to 72, and TCU upset number 10 Texas Tech 73 to 65.

In an interesting game, number 14 Kansas was embarrassed by Arizona State 70 to 60. It didn't help that their coach was ejected from the game before they even got to halftime. I don't hate Kansas as much as I used to now that Dickenson is gone, but this is still a bad look for the team. Though Izzo has been ejected his fair share of times too. I don't know if any of them were before halftime though.

In the last shocking upset of Tuesday, UCLA took down number 9 Nebraska at a crucial time for the Cornhuskers. This is not what they needed heading into the conference tournament. It's becoming a bit more likely that Michigan will be the regular season champion with Michigan State falling just behind them. I think even if MSU were to pull out a win this weekend at Michigan, it still wouldn't be enough to give them the edge. Those loses to Minnesota and Wisconsin are stinging a bit more now.

There were five games in the top 25 on Wednesday, but none of them were upsets.

Last night we had two games in the top 25 and it looks like both of them were in the Big 10. Number 8 Michigan State had a nice win over Rutgers 91 to 87 on senior night in East Lansing. It's actually a bit closer of a game than I think it should have been for a team that is 12-18 on the season.

Then we have number 3 Michigan who had a close game against Iowa 71 to 68. Iowa is 20-10 on the season, so that is at least a little more respectable.

This weekend I will be watching the World Baseball Classic, the Big Ten women's conference tournament, Radford Softball at Virginia Tech, and the Michigan/Michigan State game. Don't mind me if I am a little tired on Monday!
