On The Cusp...

Just like that, the NFL season is nearly over... Needless to say, the Detroit Lions season is basically done. I don't think they have any chance of making it to the playoffs sitting at the bottom of the NFC North. It's kind of annoying to think that Detroit fans got maybe two good years of football if they were lucky before things went back to the same old Lions.
Needless to say, it's going to be a long few decades if we have to wait that long again for the Lions to be good. I'd almost question whether I will be alive to see it again. That's likely how long it is going to take them to right the ship.
So yeah, Dallas beat Washington 30 to 23 and Minnesota beat Detroit 23 to 10. What a waste of a Christmas Day! I didn't even realize the game was on, so I was able to shield myself from a lot of the pain.
Denver beat Kansas City 20 to 13, Houston bested the Chargers 20 to 16, and Baltimore smacked the Green Bay Packers 41 to 24. Seattle beat Carolina 27 to 10, New England stomped the Jets 42 to 10, and Miami beat Tampa Bay 20 to 17.
Jacksonville had a good game against the Colts beating them 23 to 17, New Orleans snagged a rare win beating Tennessee 34 to 26, and Cleveland stunned the Steelers 13 to 6.
Cincinnati beat Arizona 37 to 14, The Giants beat the Raiders 34 to 10, and Philadelphia beat Buffalo 13 to 12. Finally, the Bears dropped their game to the 49ers 42 to 38, and Atlanta took down the Rams 27 to 24.
This pretty much solidifies things in the AFC with Denver, New England, Jacksonville, and Pittsburgh getting top spots in their divisions. Meanwhile, Houston, The Chargers, and Buffalo are likely into the playoffs via wildcard berths. Pretty crazy that three wildcard teams can have a better record than the Steelers.
It's actually kind of a slap in the face. I guess we will see how it all plays out. It's not really the Steelers fault that their division sucked so much.
Meanwhile in the NFC, it looks like Seattle, Chicago, Philly, and Carolina (yeah, you read that right) are going to be in the playoffs. Once again, the Wild Card scenario is filled with teams that have a much better record than Carolina, but that's just kind of the way things go.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this last week of the season goes. I have a hard time accepting the fact that the Packers are going to be in the playoffs, but I guess they did beat the Lions twice this year...
