Moving Ahead

As a follow up to the post I wrote yesterday about the head coach of the Tiffin University softball team taking a position as the head coach at Ohio University, I have some other news concerning Tiffin. As we say goodbye to Coach Paige, it appears assistant Coach Megan has been tasked with heading the lady Dragons moving forward. Congrats to her on that. What a great opportunity for both of them.

I've been excessively busy lately, even more than I really should be for this time of year. It seems like pretty much every evening I am off doing something and I have very little time to watch any kind of sports. I still haven't watched a single world cup game and I don't really see that changing unless the US finds a way to make it deep into the competition.

I was supposed to go watch my niece play softball last night, but we got rained out due to some massive storms that rolled through. Unfortunately, this was her last game of the season, so we will have to wait until next year to make it down to see her. It wasn't worth braving quarter sized hail though.

Meanwhile, the AUSL continues to roll along. We had two games on Monday night with Carolina beating Texas 6 to 5 and Portland taking down Utah 3 to 2.

Then, last night we had another game between Oklahoma City and Chicago. I did get a chance to watch part of that game and it was a quite exciting game with Chicago snagging the win 5 to 4.

Meanwhile, my brother in law and oldest niece have also been coaching a 16U softball team this summer. They had a two game scrimmage last night and while they dropped the first game 4 to 1, they came back in a big way with the second game winning 12 to 2.

They head to Cincinnati this weekend for a tournament. I wish them the best of luck with that. The team couldn't ask for better coaches, it's just a matter of how well they put that tutelage into practice.

In another week or two our other niece starts playing a couple of weekend stints with her travel team. It's just a small group of girls they put together to play some 18U games this summer. Universities usually encourage players to play some kind of summer ball so they can stay in shape and conditioned for the next season. You would think they would be worried about players getting hurt in the off season, but this actually ensures they don't get hurt when they come back in the fall and start playing again.

It's an interesting fact I picked up over the years watching my nieces play at the college level.
