Lest we not forget...

It's been hard to keep up with everything given all the excitement that is taking place in the college football and basketball world right now. With the regular football season in the books and the college bowl season right around the corner, we are coming to the end of my college football coverage.

Don't worry, we still have a good month or so until the championship game, but I feel like I have sorely neglected the women's volleyball tournament that is currently taking place.

I covered some of the first round games with you in a previous post, but since then the rest of the first round and the full second round has taken place.

So lets move along to the rest of the first round...

It was Friday the 5th of December that the rest of the first round games and the second round games started.

Unranked Marquette had a big upset win over number 7 seed Western Kentucky in straight sets. Michigan also had a nice upset taking out number 8 seed Xavier in straight sets.

Number 6 TCU ousted SFA in straight sets, and Florida upset seven seed Rice in straight sets.

Kansas State had to go the full five games to get the match win over 8 seed San Diego 3 to 2, and five seed Iowa State also needed five games to take out St. Thomas.

Another 8 seed Penn State took out South Florida 3 to 1 to advance to the second round. Two seed Louisville knocked out Loyola Chicago in straight sets, and 1 seed Pittsburgh had little trouble with UMBC beating them in straight sets.

Three seed Texas A&M only needed three games to knock out Campbell, which was also true of two seed SMU over Central Arkansas. Arizona upsets seven seed South Dakota State 3 to 1, and 1 seed Nebraska sent LIU packing in straight sets.

Finally, in the last three first round games, number 1 seed Texas beat Florida A&M in straight sets, two seed Stanford beat Utah Valley 3 to 1, and Cal Poly got a huge upset over four seed Southern California in a five game thriller.

The second round is where things get more exciting as the field is split in half once again. It's crazy how in just two days you can go from 64 teams to 16 teams in short order.

Three seed Purdue took out 6 seed Baylor in a 3 to 1 match, four seed Indiana bested five seed Colorado in straight sets, and four seed Kansas sent five seed Miami home 3 to 1.

Number one seed Kentucky beat 8 seed UCLA 3 to 1, three seed Creighton ousted 6 seed UNI 3 to 1, and 3 seed Wisconsin beat North Carolina in straight sets.

To close out the second day of the tournament and the first day of the second round we had two seed Arizona State beating Utah State 3 to 1.

That just leaves us the second day of the second round to bring everything down to the sweet 16. Do they call it the sweet 16 in volleyball? I don't really know...

Two seed Louisville beat Marquette, but it took them five sets to get the 3 to 2 outcome. Number 1 seed Pittsburgh took out Michigan in straight sets, as did 1 seed Texas against 8 seed Penn State. One seed Nebraska had little trouble against Kansas State beating them in straight sets, and three seed Texas A&M ousted six seed TCU 3 to 1. Finally two seed SMU beat Florida in straight sets, four seed Minnesota took down five seed Iowa State in straight sets, and two seed Stanford beat Arizona 3 to 1.

After about a week off, action picks back up today with 3 seed Creighton taking on 2 seed Arizona State, Cal Poly facing 1 seed Kentucky, 4 seed Minnesota against 1 seed Pittsburgh, and 3 seed Purdue facing 2 seed SMU. These games are all on ESPN2, so I actually get to watch some of them.

Tomorrow is the rest of the round of 16 games. Then it is a race to the finish from there.

Check back next week for a full update!
