Into the thick of it

As we celebrate the last day of April, it's safe to say that all of the Spring jitters should be out of the way by now and we are getting ready to get into the heart of the major league season. I've personally not watched too much baseball to date. The Tigers were actually on a channel I could get the other day, but I was busy watching softball to pay too much attention. Fairly soon I am going to have to make it down state a bit to watch my nephew play a few games, and our youngest niece is picking up the mantle of her older cousins and starting her own softball career.
I think at some point my wife and I are going to try and get to a minor league game at our local park that you see in the photo above, but I am not sure when that is going to happen. We have so much going on right now it feels like the days are flying by at a record pace!
Maybe by the time we get to June things will have slowed down. I kind of doubt it though!
Over in the American League, the Yankees are the team to beat. I bet ESPN is happy about that. Part of the reason I have such a disdain for ESPN is the fact that for decades they acted like the Yankees were the only team in major league baseball. Pretty much every highlight or news story was about the Yankees. Even when the Tigers and other teams were dominating the league. It was sickening. That was the point I started using The Score app to get the majority of my sports scores. The only reason I pay for the ESPN app now is so I can watch my niece play softball down at Radford.
So yeah, the Yankees have twenty wins and sit at the top of the standings. Oddly enough, the second best team in the AL is also in the East. Tampa Bay has 18 wins and sits right below New York in the standings. Then we have Cleveland, Oakland (Vegas?), and Seattle with 16 wins. That puts the Guardians at the top of the AL Central and The A's at the top of the AL West. from there, Detroit and Texas are tied with fifteen wins a piece. It's then a mishmash of 14, 13, 12 and even 11 win teams with Houston bringing up the rear.
Over in the National League, Atlanta continues to be on top with 22 wins. Miami sits quite a ways below them in the NL East with only 15 wins. There is a good chance Atlanta could run away with their division (or whatever they call it). The Dodgers sit right below Atlanta with twenty wins, but at the top of the NL West. Right below them we have San Diego in the NL West, as well as Cincy and The Cubs in the NL Central all with 19 wins.
Right now the Mets and the Phillies are tied for the worst teams in the league with only ten wins a piece.
I hate to say it, but after their performance last year, this likely isn't where Philadelphia wants to be. They could be cleaning house when it comes to the trade deadline.
