In Control

Right from the start, The Toronto Blue Jays were in the drivers seat last night. Trust me, I am not being dramatic. If you watched game five of the World Series last night, you know exactly what I am talking about.
Okay so you didn't watch the game last night?
Let me paint a picture for you... Game five, the series is all tied up. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the home team for this game and after Rufus Wainwright sang Oh Canada, and some other person I have never heard of sang The Star Spangled Banner, we got ready for the first pitch of the game.
It's something that happens all the time, so you almost don't pay attention to it when that first ball comes flying across the plate. I'd guess more often than not, most players take that first ball to kind of gauge how the starting pitcher is going to perform that night.
But not last night.
First pitch of the game, first hit of the game, first homerun of the game. It was pretty magical and I am glad I caught it before I had to float off to some work obligations. Despite being a home game, the crowd went absolutely wild and it became pretty apparent that we were in for an exciting night.
No, it didn't go 18 innings like game four did, but Yesavage put on an absolute clinic pitching seven innings allowing only 3 hits and striking out 12 batters on the Jay's journey to a 6 to 1 win in game five of the series. This pulls them ahead 3 to 2 and sees them heading back to Toronto on Friday night so that they can hopefully clinch the series on home turf.
As I have said before, this has been a true David and Goliath battle with the Toronto Blue Jay's facing a much bigger payroll with this LA Dodgers.
Rough estimates place the Dodgers payroll at around $350 Million dollars. Meanwhile, the Toronto payroll is closer to $255 million. When you are dealing with numbers that large it might not seem like that much of a gap, but it really is. Maybe not as much as some other teams, but it's still pretty big.
I've been saying for a while, I don't really care who wins this series, but I do have to admit that I wouldn't be too sad if the Jay's ended up taking the whole thing.
I guess we will have to wait a couple of days to find out!
