Impressive!

As the sun sets on another college football season, I can't help but look back and be absolutely impressed by the performance of the Indiana Hoosiers. In case you missed it (I did, I was sleeping), last night the Hoosiers took down the Miami Hurricanes 27 to 21 to win the national championship. If you are keeping track, that is the third Big Ten team in as many years to win the title.

I'll even allow the Michigan title to stand in 2023 even though they totally stole signs to get to that point. With the past three years aside, it hasn't been since 2014 that a Big Ten team won the national championship. Before that... 2002, both of them by Ohio State.

I think what's even more impressive is the fact that Indiana started the season in the number 20 spot on the associated press coaches pole. It didn't take long before they found themselves closer to the top, and then last night they capped off a perfect season with an overall record of 16-0. That's a 16 game winning streak for the Hoosiers.

Their record last year was 11-2, and their record the year before that was the worst in the Big Ten at 3-9. Quite the turn around right? Like I have said in the past, this actually gives me hope that Michigan State could turn things around and have a pretty phenomenal year themselves. I'm not even asking for a national championship, but a nice winning season and a win in a mid-major bowl game would be pretty awesome. A decisive win over Michigan would be pretty cool too.

Unfortunately, the celebration last night had to be a little marred due to poor sportsmanship. It seems the quarterback of Miami went to the locker room without shaking any hands. Pretty classless. There were also a Miami player that threw a punch at an Indiana player. I understand losing is frustrating, but you need to be better than that. If anything it just proves that you didn't deserve to be there. I did get to see the late game interception by the Indiana player to pretty much seal the deal on the game and that was pretty cool to watch. Especially given how dominant the Indiana defense has been this season.

I'm very happy that Indiana was able to pull this off and maybe quiet some of the critics who say the Big Ten isn't a power conference when it comes to football. Take that you SEC losers! Needless to say, Mendoza should have a pretty good future ahead of him in the NFL I hope. I actually wouldn't be sad if the Lions picked him up, but it's more likely he will go to Vegas or one of the other NFL teams that were in the bottom of the heap.

So there you go, the 2025 college football season is in the books. Now we have to wait eight months or so to do it all over again!
