I'm game

As I mentioned in the post from my main account, it was a rough weekend for my nephew and his travel baseball team. While his school has been quite good the past couple of years, his travel team continues to deal with the same struggles. I think part of it just the fact that the team is something one of the dad's decided to throw together to keep the kids engaged and active. I don't think it was every really meant to be an elite group of kids playing at a high level, but maybe I am wrong.
The Raiders played three games this weekend losing the first game 17 to 0 (I was at that game), the second game they lost 14 to 0, and the third game they played on Sunday they lost 9 to 2.
The funny thing is, there are a few small things I think they could do differently that would help them out quite a bit. Of course, on paper and in practice are two entirely different things.
Despite the losses, the team seemed to be in good spirits. I am not sure I would be able to say the same if I were in that position. It's going to be interesting to see where this nephew falls as far as sports are concerned. His younger brother has seemed to already make a choice that he would rather just play basketball. It's questionable if he will play football at all this year and he gave up on baseball fairly quickly.
Meanwhile, his older brother has tried just about every sport out there from football to baseball, basketball, and even wrestling. Word on the street now is that he has his eye on joining the golf team when he finally gets to the high school level. Like I said, it is going to be interesting to see where he eventually ends up.
At this point, I wouldn't even try to guess.
I have to admire his willingness to try just about anything. I don't think I would have had that confidence when I was his age. Heck, I still don't have that confidence even now. At some point we are going to need to get back down state to watch his younger brother play some basketball. They just had their media day and I think the season is going to be ramping up soon. In addition to that, we need to get down and see our niece play a game with her softball team.
It's going to be quite a change from the level of play we have gotten used to over the years with our older nieces. I still remember those days though when they could barely get the ball over the plate as pitchers. It's going to bring back a lot of memories for sure!
