Hey Ladies!

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I haven't been watching as much of the Women's NCAA tournament as I probably should be. Especially given the fact that it is National Women's Month or something like that in March. I keep hearing references to it on the radio, but I haven't paid too much attention until today. Which you might think is horrible, but trust me, I appreciate ladies all the time. I don't think it needs to be relegated to a specific month. My posts about my amazing nieces should shatter any doubts you might have.

So yeah, alongside the men's national tournament, the women's tournament has also been taking place. What probably drives me the most crazy about the games is the fact that the men's tournament has teams traveling to central locations to play their early games while the women's tournament are played at the home schools venue. I'm guessing they are worried about being able to fill seats in larger venues, but who really knows.

Like the men's tournament, we started with 64 teams and we have whittled our way down to sixteen. Those games are taking place on March 27th and 28th. In case you haven't been following along (like me), we have number 1 seed UConn taking on four seed North Carolina, six seed Notre Dame facing two seed Vanderbilt, and one seed UCLA facing four seed Minnesota. To finish out the top part of the bracket we also have three seed Duke facing two seed LSU.

The lower half of the bracket gives us one seed South Carolina facing four seed Oklahoma, three seed Texas Christian facing ten seed Virginia, and one seed Texas taking on 5 seed Kentucky. Finally, we finish out the bottom half of the bracket with 3 seed Louisville facing 2 seed Michigan.

It would seem that UVA is the big outlier in this tournament being a ten seed among a bunch of four seeds and higher. Of course Kentucky and Notre Dame are the two other outliers.

Personally, I'd like to see one of the other schools win this year. LSU and South Carolina have been power houses in the sport over the past few years as well as Connecticut who won the tournament last year. Personally, I'd love to see UVA come away with the title, but I am not sure how likely that is given their past performance. It took them two overtimes to get past Iowa to their game on the 28th, so it could be rough for them moving forward.

Of course, I really don't want to see U of M win anything every, so if I had to pick another team that I would be cheering for, it would probably be UCLA or Minnesota. It's just unfortunate that two Big Ten teams have to face each other in the Sweet 16. Oddly enough, I wouldn't be sad to see Duke win it all either. Despite their dominance of the men's bracket over the past couple of decades, the women's team hasn't won a title since, well, ever.

It might be cool to finally see the Blue Devil's have a win on the women's side of things.
