Fill Your Bowl

Just like when that first big snow of the season hits, it's always a bit of a culture shock when the first weekend without a full college football schedule hits. This weekend we only had a handful of games as the regular season is officially over and we wait for the bowl games to really start.
The biggest game of the weekend was probably the traditional Army/Navy game that was played at the home of the Baltimore Ravens. It actually looked like a chilly if not beautiful day, and the cadets showed up in full force to cheer on their respective team.
I watched some of the game and just when I thought Army was going to run away with the game, things bound themselves in a bit of a stalemate. Navy ended up winning 17 to 16. Well done Midshipmen! As the son of a Navy guy, I have to say I am pretty proud they took home the win.
Meanwhile, there were two other bowl games played this past weekend. First we had the Celebration Bowl pitting South Carolina State against Prairie View A&M. SCS came away with the win in Atlanta 40 to 38. Then we had the LA Bowl seeing Washington face Boise State in Inglewood CA. Washington was the clear winner in this one hammering Boise State 38 to 10. Plus we were all winners for not having to look at that horrible Boise State blue football field!
The bowls continue this week as Troy faces Jacksonville State in the Salute to Veterans Bowl on Tuesday.
Wednesday brings us two more bowls with Old Dominion facing South Florida in the Cure Bowl, then Louisiana takes on Delaware in the 68 Ventures Bowl. Thursday we have the XBox Bowl with Arkansas State against Missouri State, and finally on Friday we have Kennesaw State vs. Western Michigan in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, Memphis vs. NC State in the Gasparilla Bowl, and number 8 Oklahoma takes on number 9 Alabama in the first game of the college football playoff.
If you are a college football fan, these are the days to soak it all in before it is gone for another 8 months or so! Personally, I've already pretty much shifted to basketball mode given how horrible the Michigan State Spartans were this year, but that doesn't mean I won't find a way to watch some more football here and there. Those playoff games are going to be interesting to say the least. I'm actually hoping that Indiana can have a deep run this year.
I'd also love to see Alabama and Ohio State get knocked out in one of the early rounds.
