Defensive Specialist

The local newspaper recently held a contest where they were taking votes to highlight the athlete of the week. They hand pick a couple of local athletes, then they face them off against each other to who can get the most votes from their friends and family. Well, needless to say, our niece was one of the nominees this past week and so after a flurry of voting, she won with a massive 63% of the vote or something like that.
Besides being the winner of the contest and athlete of the week, she also got a really nice write up in the local paper with a lot of really good comments from her coach. It was definitely a moment of pride to see what her coach and teammates think of her. I can still remember teaching her to ride a bike up and down the road at our old house so many summers ago!
Her official position on the team is "Defensive Specialist", and she basically hangs out in the back row directing traffic and sacrificing her self to dig balls that would otherwise go out or score a point for the other team. I've said it before but volleyball is pretty amazing to watch and seeing my niece play is even more special. She really is an exceptional player.

@mrsbozz and I are heading out to watch her play again tonight and I am really looking forward to it. Meanwhile, the Major League Baseball season is barreling towards the playoffs and I am getting more and more nervous as each day passes. I don't think it's that the Tigers are in a slump, I just think that the other teams are starting to realize it's "go time" and they are turning on the heat extra strong.
Where Detroit used to sit at the top of the entire MLB, they are now barely sitting in second place in the AL. They still hold the AL Central with a six game lead over the Cleveland (whatever they are called now) Guardians I think, with 85 wins. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays have been on a tear and they are sitting at the top of the AL with 89 wins. They also have a +800 shot of winning the championship compared to Detroit's +1000 chances.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are right behind them with 84 wins and a +900 shot at winning the championship. After that we have Seattle and Houston with 83 wins and Boston close behind them with 82 wins.
Over in the National League, the Phillies are sitting pretty with 91 wins and the honor of clinching the division. However, not to be outdone, The Brewers are boasting a massive 92 wins and they have already gained a playoff spot. I was hoping Detroit would find themselves in a similar situation by this time of the season, but it was not to be.
The Cubs have an impressive 87 wins and then we have San Diego with 82 wins. It's actually a bit interesting that things have started to separate a bit in the NL while things in the AL have gotten a lot tighter. Earlier in the season and about halfway through, it was the opposite way.
Despite only have 84 wins, the Dodgers are still the favorite to win the championship at +450. Philadelphia has moved up to a +500 chance, and Milwaukee is sitting at a +700 odds.
Sadly, the Mets have fallen off a bit from where they were just a few short months ago. They still have a chance to maybe make it to the wild card, but they are going to have to play strong to finish the season.

Can your athlete do dad a solid and snag a college scholarship? :)
I think she will do good. She also has great grades so scholarships shouldn't be too big of a deal for her. My brother in law is actually her step dad and they have already started planning for college next year.
