The Tiffin Dragons softball team went three out of four over the weekend to clinch their spot at the top of the rankings in the G-MAC conference. Once again the Dragons are the regular season champions as they head into the post season. This is a really big deal for Tiffin as they are now about four years into a rebuild after their new coach took the reigns. It was a bit bumpy at first until the coach was able to build a team that was wholly her own. I think she appears to know what she is doing!

Although my niece no longer plays for the team, she still stays in touch with the players and she has to go back every now and then for class, so she tries to keep up with them as best she can.

Tiffin started on Saturday with a sweep of Walsh University for senior day 7 to 1 and then 9 to 3. On Sunday, they dropped their first game to University of Findlay 6 to 2, but then they were able to bounce back and win the last game 3 to 2.

That sets us up for the G-MAC tournament that starts up tomorrow believe it or not!

As I said, Tiffin finished the regular season on top of the G-MAC with a conference record of 20 wins and 4 losses. That left Ohio Dominican right below them at 19-5 on the season. Then we have Ashland and Findlay close behind at 18-6 for both teams.

Only the top eight teams get to play in the tournament, so that leaves Malone, Thomas More, Walsh, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Lake Erie on the outside looking in.

As I said, the conference tournament starts up tomorrow and as the number 1 seed in the conference, Tiffin is going to face off against the number 8 seed Cedarville. The conference tournament should be a double elimination format, so even if Tiffin struggles a little bit, they won't be out of the the running right away.

Personally, I think they are going to run the tournament, but time will tell. They have a strong team with some amazing hitting and some really good pitching. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. If they win the tournament, they should get to play in the Division II national tournament.
