"Catching" Up

Talk about a cluster... The past five days have been a bit of a whirlwind for me and as you might have noticed, I missed making my posts on Thursday and Friday last week. I'd like to say that is a one time thing, but the truth is, now that we are in summer, it might be a lot more common that I miss the chance to do some writing at the end of the week. This week it was all weather based. We got hammered by some pretty significant storms. Volatile is the best way to describe the weather all last week. Thankfully, this week is shaping up to be a lot less hazardous for us.

Anyway, despite my absence from HIVE, the AUSL has continued to plug along with their opening week of play.

First off, congrats to the New York Knickerbockers, well done on your NBA victory. I was in the process of watching game 4 when our power went out on Wednesday. I think the Stanley Cup just wrapped up too, but I am not sure who won that. Also, in case you haven't heard, this little thing called the World Cup is happening.

I'll recap all the Athletes Unlimited Softball League scores for you now.

Texas beat Oklahoma City 8 to 5, Portland took a massive loss against Carolina 11 to 2, and Utah slipped past Chicago 1 to 0 on Wednesday of last week.

On Thursday, Portland hammered Carolina 12 to 4, Texas fell short of Oklahoma City 5 to 4, and Chicago had a highly offensive game against Utah, but lost 9 to 8.

There was no action on Friday, but then on Saturday there were just two games. Oklahoma City throttled Chicago 9 to 1, and Portland beat Utah 3 to 1.

Finally, on Sunday, Texas fell to Carolina 9 to 1, Chicago beat Oklahoma city 11 to 3, and Portland edged out Utah 2 to 1.

I think one of the things I like about this so much is that there isn't a single team that is absolutely dominant. You might have some lopsided wins, but it seems to be spread across the board. Teams have good days and teams have bad days, that's just how it goes.

There is something really pure about the AUSL that I am loving. I think this is a good taste for how things are going to look in a couple years when the Olympic Games pick the sport back up.

Today we have just two games starting at 7 PM with Texas taking on Carolina, and then at 9:30 PM we have Portland facing Utah.

I forgot to point out that these teams are playing their games at university stadiums throughout the nation. It would be nice if we started to see some full on softball stadiums like they have for the minor league baseball teams. I know it's a long shot, but I can dream right?
