Bye Bye Bye

Despite the fact that my Michigan State Spartans were on bye for what seems like the second week this college football season, it was still pretty exciting. The good news is, since they weren't playing, they weren't able to find a way to lose another game. I'm sure that won't be the case next weekend when Penn State comes to town.
Probably the biggest news of the weekend is the fact that number 8 Texas Tech beat number 7 BYU to hand the cougars their first loss of the season. It's been a pretty crazy ride for BYU though many would argue their strength of schedule hasn't been that great. Hence the low ranking for a team that had zero losses for most of the season.
If anything, I think this really proves how good Texas Tech is and how well positioned they are to probably make it to a respectable bowl game this post season.
I totally misread the number 5 Georgia versus Mississippi State game with the Bulldogs hammering the Bulldogs (super creative huh?) 41 to 21.
Probably the biggest shock of the weekend was the fact that Penn State gave number 2 Indiana a run for their money. The Hoosiers barely snagged the 27 to 24 win in that game. It was just another disappointing end for the Nittany Lions.
I found it interesting that the commentators were talking about how great the Indiana quarterback is and how his game winning drive should make him a lock for the Heisman trophy. I actually disagree with that. Penn State is a shell of a team right now. The fact that they were able to almost win the game makes Indiana look a whole lot worse than it makes them look good.
I guess that's just my take though.
In other excitement, Number 9 Oregon had a close scrape against number 20 Iowa just barely beating them 18 to 16. I watched the majority of that game and it was a good showing. Both teams played really hard and as you can tell from the final score, their defense was on point. It was a knock down drag out fight to the end.
We had a couple overtime games this weekend with number 16 Vanderbilt taking down Auburn 45 to 38 in overtime, and California stunning number 15 Louisville 29 to 26 in a huge overtime win.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin made a name for themselves upsetting number 23 Washington 13 to 10 in another defensively tight game.
Finally, the last big upset of the weekend game at the hands of Wake Forest who took down number 14 Virginia 16 to 9.
The other good news is College basketball has started, so I am really looking forward to that. I'll post more about that on Wednesday this week.
