A Super Start
After an ever so long week, we finally get to pick back up with the NCAA division I and division II softball tournaments. I've been slammed this week and although I have been writing about it pretty much every day, softball has been one of the furthest things from my mind. In fact, I didn't watch any of the division II games yesterday and it was only once I got home and finally had all of my responsibilities out of the way that I sat down to watch the first inning or two of the Tennessee/Georgia division I match up.
The two home runs that The Volunteers hit in the first inning were enough to give them the win, but they scored another run somewhere in the course of the game and the one run that Georgia scored wasn't enough to grab them the win. These two teams face off again today at 3 PM in a best of three series.
Let me give you my predictions for the rest of the field. I'm going with Alabama over LSU, Oklahoma over Mississippi State, UCLA over UCF, and Texas Tech over Florida. I'm also picking Duke over Arkansas, Tennessee over Georgia, Nebraska over Oklahoma State, and Texas over Arizona State.
By the end of the weekend the field will be cut in half and the last eight teams will battle it out in double elimination to see who will be facing each other in the finals.
Meanwhile, in the Division II tournament, we already have the first round of games done and we are just waiting to see who will advance through the super regionals. By the end of the day today I would guess at least four of the teams will be eliminated and the rest will be playing a crucial third game to stay alive tomorrow.
Glenville State leads Kutztown by one game, as does Saint Leo over UAH. Central Oklahoma took the first game over MO SOU, and West Texas has the lead over OK CHR.
Saint Thomas Aquinas jumped out to a lead over Assumption, UNG leads Francis Marion, McKendree beat out UIndy, and Biola has the advantage over CSUSM.
Games in division II pick back up again today at 10 AM, so I will likely turn my second monitor on and try to catch some of that action on ESPN+.
Meanwhile, the rest of the games I will be watching from my campsite over the weekend. Fingers crossed anyway.
