A Strong Weekend

Overall, I would have to say it was a pretty good weekend for the Tiffin Dragons Softball team. I wouldn't say it was a perfect weekend, but winning three out of four games isn't too bad. I think the only unfortunate part is the game they dropped was versus the team they are fighting against for the top spot in the conference.

Actually, I take that back. Looking at the GMAC standings, it appears that Ohio Dominican has been on a bit of a slump and is no longer in the top spot where they used to reside. Tiffin has now claimed that spot with Ashland hot on their heals. Oddly enough, University of Findlay has more overall wins on the season, but when you break it down to conference play, they are lagging behind by two games.

Tiffin started their weekend with a double header on Friday against Ursuline College in Pepper Pike Ohio. I wouldn't say I am an expert on Ohio, but Pepper Pike is a town I have never heard of. Without looking at a map I would guess maybe it's down by Cincy? Maybe someone can help me out here. Or I could just look at a map...

Well, I figured it was one way or the other. Turns out I went the wrong direction. I figured South when it was actually North. Pepper Pike is up by Cleveland.

Anyway, geography lesson aside, Tiffin had a nice pair of wins in their double header against Ursuline College. They took the first game 5 to 0, and then they had another shut out in the second game winning 16 to 0 in a five inning run rule.

Then on Saturday, they played in Columbus, OH against Ohio Dominican University. Our niece who used to play with the Dragons made the quick drive into the city to watch the games. It was a double header again like on Friday, and Tiffin started things off well with a 5 to 3 victory over ODU. Unfortunately, things fell apart in the second game with the Dragons falling 6 to 1.

While a loss is never a good thing, the Tiffin team is an impressive 14 and 2 in their last sixteen games. That is some good momentum to be riding into the conference tournament in just a few weeks. They have three more series before the G-MAC Tournament starts on April 29th.

First they take on Wayne State University in a double header tomorrow before facing Walsh University twice on Saturday for senior day down in Tiffin. Finally, on Sunday they have another double header against University of Findlay. I'm looking forward to seeing how Tiffin finishes the season.
