🛣️ Detour to the Top of Belgium (and No, I’m Not Kidding About the Shoes)

Today’s agenda was simple: drive to Luxembourg. You know, like regular people do when they want waffles, castles, or tax efficiency. But of course, in true “never a dull drive” fashion, we took a different route — because someone (me) decided to detour for a pair of FiveFingers shoes. Yes, those ninja toe-shoes that make you look like you’re about to scale a cliff or audition for a Tarzan reboot. Don’t ask. Or do. I’m not ashamed. Mostly.

Anyway, the detour led us to Baraque Fraiture, a name that sounds like it should involve a medieval battle or a cheese market, but instead? It’s the highest point in Belgium.

Now before you get visions of towering Alps or majestic panoramic views that make you want to write poetry — dial it down. It’s Belgium. The highest point is 694 meters. There’s a restaurant, a couple of roads, and some really gorgeous nature. And by gorgeous, I mean the kind of landscape that slaps you with a reminder that peace, quiet, and fields that don’t buzz with Wi-Fi signals might actually be good for the soul.

Would I live there? Oh yes. Give me trees, some silence, and a horizon with no retail parks and I’m good. Who needs urban stress when you’ve got moody clouds, rolling hills, and roads where the only honk you hear is your own sigh of contentment?

💡 Pro Tip: There was nowhere to stop and snap pics unless we committed to sitting down for a meal. But since I’m allegedly trying to lose weight (read: not gain more), we kept moving. Photos were taken a bit further down the road, but let’s not get picky. The vibes are intact.

Sometimes a detour brings you unexpected peace, a slightly thinner wallet (thanks, shoes), and a memory you didn’t plan for — which is kinda the whole point of traveling like a Gen X’er. No itinerary, just vibes. Just saying…
