So Discord is finally pushing that massive update where they treat everyone like a teenager by default unless you prove otherwise and man the timeline is absolutely roasting them over it which is fair considering they want you to either upload a government ID or do a live face scan video selfie to prove you are an adult

I know they put out a statement saying the vast majority of people wont have to do it but we all know how corporate promises work usually they just wait until the heat dies down before they tighten the screws and honestly lots of hive communities use discord for their governance and chatting so this hits close to home for a lot of us who value pseudonymity

The real kicker though is that all this security theater is basically dead on arrival because I have been digging into the local AI scene and people are already bypassing these liveness checks with scary ease using real time deepfake tools that let you control an AI avatar with your mouse and keyboard

Basically you feed the software a photo of a person and it maps it to a 3d model so when the verification bot asks you to look left or blink you just tap a key and the avatar on screen does it perfectly while the software injects that video feed directly into the browser like a virtual webcam

It is hilarious and terrifying at the same time because the honest users are the ones risking their data with third party vendors that get hacked every other week while the scammers are just puppeteering generated faces from their gaming rigs and getting instant verified status without lifting a finger

This is exactly why I keep telling you guys that digital verification is a losing battle against generative AI and why stacking physical assets and building own infrastructure is the only real play left in a world where you cant believe your own eyes on a screen anymore
