The School’s Rumored Prostitute.

I do not think it is a crime to be a party freak. I’m just a girl who loves to go to parties, especially when I realize that it is my kind of party and I’ll meet new people but my school mates took it the other way round.
To them, being a party freak means dirty jobs but we’re just busy having fun.

“They are prostitutes,” this is the sentence which they use to classify my friends, Dolapo, Rhoda and I. This pisses me off but it would have been better if I knew the person who started the whole rumor but I do not. I just hear so many people say things about my friends and I which we’re not even not of and I don’t think we can dedicate our days trying to find who started to spread the rumor.

Our school president, Malik will be having his birthday party at night. Dolapo wore a red skimpy dress with a pair gold heels, Rhoda wore a body con top, black bum short with a pair of white sneakers while I wore a short jumpsuit with a wedge shoe. Our ride came earlier than usual so we had to get to the party early.

“Let’s welcome the trios and honor their presence,” hypeman Mikky said on our arrival. We were called trios because we do everything together and move together.

“Those prostitute ladies are here,” I immediately looked to my right to see who said that because I’ve been dying to know the person who spreads those rumors or just one of them. Zainab? I was surprised to hear Zainab say that about me.

“Bisola, did you hear that?” Rhoda asked. I saw how angry she was. Rhoda is usually quick to anger and immediately, she asked the disk jockey to stop the song.

“DJ, stop the song. I want to say something,” she yelled. We were at the club and a good mood at that so we wouldn’t want to fight. We’re not even girls who fight because it’s never a part of us.
If Dolapo and I left Rhoda to talk, the matter might have escalated and we may ruin the birthday party.

“It’s not wrong for my friends and I to like parties. We just love to party and that’s why you find us in any reasonable party,” I could see Zainab and Rachel looking at each other. They knew I heard what they said for me to have made this statement. At least, it wasn’t possible for me to raise that at someone else’s birthday party.

“And who said you guys are prostitutes? Everyone is here to have fun and don’t disturb the fun,” yes, people supported Zainab because we’re truly here to have fun and not table a matter which isn’t meant for the party. I wasn’t ready to stop the fun but when the DJ was about to start the music, I said again.

“If you ain’t the one who said that balderdash just now, you won’t be feeling guilty and you won’t even be the one to stand up against me out of every other person. To all of you who spread this rumor too, I’ll report you to the vice chancellor if I hear this again,” I guess this made them surrender after I mentioned the biggest name in school. No one would want to face the wrath of the vice chancellor.

The vice chancellor is a family friend to me and I truly can report anyone who spreads such rumor again. I went into the restroom to clean my teary eye. I don’t know why that got me emotional but truly, it did.
Just as I was about leaving the restroom, Zainab came to me.

“I’m really sorry for what happened out there. And I’m not the one who started this. It’s just what a lot of people say at school,” she pleaded but I wonder why people don’t make findings before spreading rumors.
I felt bad knowing that she’s not the only one who says it at school but I forgave her immediately she apologized.

On the next day at school, over five people came to apologize to me for spreading the rumor. Using the vice chancellor’s name as a threat to them made the rumor stop and I never heard such about that and my friends again.
Maybe I was at fault too for going to too many parties. In the end, my friends and I limited how well we go to parties and we stopped being the rumored prostitutes.
