Measles, A Life Threatening Health Condition.
Measles is a highly communicable disease which is caused by a virus and results into high fever, cough, red eyes and even rash. One of the noticeable symptoms of measles is rash. It can be very itchy and ruins the entire skin of the patient.
Even before going to the hospital, there are a few symptoms of measles that can help you detect that you are having measles. The symptoms of measles begins to happen around the tenth to fourteenth day. And they are; white spots in the mouth, fever, runny nose, tiredness, conjunctivitis or severe cough.
Measles can be highly transmitted. It is spread through contact with infected people. It mah be through airbone transmission like coughing and sneezing and it may be through direct contact like breathe to breathe contact and so much more. It mostly deals with body fluids or air.
When someone is battling with measles, there are so many complications that comes with it. Severe breathing problems is one of the biggest complications that measles comes it. If someone is diagnosed with measles, the person may not be able to breathe well but this doesn’t apply to everyone with measles. Everyone has different bodies and different medical conditions they have but this can result to severe breathing problem.
People can as well go blind. I’ve even seen cases where some went deaf due to having measles. Measles is a serious ailment but so many people take it with levity. As serious as measles is, it may lead to brain inflammation or encephalitis. If this happens, it may result into brain damage.
There are still a lot more complications like dehydration, severe diarrhea or even other ear infections.
Measles can be prevented but I feel here, people are the problem. A lot of people refuse to be vaccinated and to prevent measles, you need to take a vaccine. It is said that there is a particular measles vaccine which is given to children between twelve to thirteen months old and it will be able to combat measles till whenever.
When we check the rate of people who have measles, children are at high risk of getting measles and this is why the vaccine has to be given to the child since childhood.
Good practice of hygiene can as well help to prevent measles. Aside from being kids, adults and every other people are advised to practice proper hygiene like washing their hands before and after a meal.
They are always advised to do that because you never can tell what you might have touched so before putting that hand inside your mouth, you have to wash it.
It may not be your mouth alone. It may be your ear, nose or any other open part of your body.
To diagnose measles, some examinations like blood test, swabs from the throat or nose and urine pee test can be done to diagnose measles.
Even though measles is a life threatening condition, the risks can be reduced till it finally goes but this doesn’t mean that there is a cure for it.
People are always advised to take Vitamin A to fight the virus but too much of it can be bad as well.
