How Stress Affects Our Mental And Emotional Health.
Stress can be referred to as a kind of mental or emotional pressure in which we put into a particular thing. Our bodies react to stress differently and that's it can be seen as our bodily response which scrambles our balance. Whenever we are stressed, we should have in mind that we not only get affected physically but mentally and emotionally too.
There are three major types of stress and we all react to at least one of them based on our bodily reactions to stress. The first kind of stress is the acute stress in which our body reacts immediately to a new challenge, event or a new activity. What do you think will happen to us when we introduce somethin new to our bodies? We tend to experience emotional distress, rapid or shortness of breathe, tension headaches or acid stomach and all of these are features of acute stress.
Episodic acute stress is the second stage and type of stress which connotes that the acute stress is becoming habitual or a way of life. Anyone who deals with this kind of stress is likely to experience frequent tension headaches, hypertension or restlessness. Lastly, we have the chronic stress in which someone has been exposed to long-term stress. At this stage, the person will experience more fatigue, depression, less sleeping, sweating or feeling unsafe.
Stress can be caused by so many factors depending on which one we are exposed to. Working long hours is a way to get stressed especially when there are no breaks in between. When we experience frequent little problems too, we become stressed. So many people are likely to break down in tears after experiencing frequent problems which can eventually lead to depression. Other factors that causes stress are financial instability, retiring, having a baby, family issues or other things that are enough to make one stressed.
Stress may be seen as something normal until it begins to take a toll on us. When we are used to stress, especially at the chronic stage, it comes with its complications physically and also in our health. Stress can bring about depression, skin problems like eczema, high blood pressure, fertility problems, heart disease, heart attack, weight gain or loss and every other health issue related to stress.
I feel like stress is one of the easiest things to diagnose. Even before going to the doctor, or before having chronic health problems relating to stress, you will be able to tell that you are stressed and most importantly, you will know what is stressing you out. One thing to know is that you cannot avoid stress but you can manage it. As long as you will continue to interfere in different activities, you will surely be stressed but the most important thing is managing the stress so it does not burn you out.
Relaxation is one of the ways to avoid getting stressed. You can tell when something is getting you stressed and you have to relax. Stress has a way of killing our healthy diet so we have to maintain a proper diet each day to ease the stress we are going through. Most importantly, engage in things that keeps you happy. Stress can make on dull and unhappy but when you engage in things that keeps you happy and positive, that stress will be eased and you can conquer it.
Never hesitate to visit the doctor when you feel any symptom of stress either physically, emotionally or mentally. It is natural to feel stressed but with a proper stress management scheme, you will do away with stress in your life.
