Epilepsy; A Manageable Health Condition.

Epilepsy is known as a disorder which affects the electrical activity of the brain which leads to the nerve cells not connecting properly and leads to a seizure. Whenever the seizures arrive, there will be no control for it until the nerve cells signal properly again.
One thing to know is that epilepsy never goes away, it can never be cured but can be managed.

About 70% of people with epilepsy can manage the ailment effectively. When someone has been diagnosed with epilepsy, such person is likely to have repeated seizures over and over again.

There are two basic types of seizures. The first is the generalized seizures. That can also be called the generalized onset seizure which causes abnormal movement on both sides of the body. When someone is experiencing generalized seizure, the person is unconscious and is likely to have an injury based on the abnormal body movements.
The second type is the focal seizure which begins on one side of the brain. At the same time, it is possible for this seizure to spread to the other side of the brain which leads to loss of consciousness and awkward movements of the body.

Many people wonder what causes epilepsy. Some people even make some superstitions about it but here are some of the things that causes epilepsy. Genetic influence is one of the common causes of epilepsy or seizure. Sometimes, it runs in the family. When someone is diagnosed with epilepsy, it’s important to ask if anyone has an history of epilepsy in their family.

It can be shocking that infections like HIV can cause epilepsy. Once the infection gets to the brain, it’s most likely to cause epilepsy. Other effects like head trauma or triggere can also cause epilepsy.

What are the symptoms of epilepsy? Seizure! This is the number one and main symptom of epilepsy. Also, some people experience aura which happens before seizure and that’s to send a message that seizure is likely or about to happen.

How do you discover or diagnose epilepsy? To diagnose epilepsy, the doctor has to know your history of seizure. The doctor will ask you how frequent you experience your seizures.
Other tests will be done like a blood test, an EEG and a CT scan or MRI are surely going to help diagnose epilepsy in people.

What are the ways to treat epilepsy? Despite the fact that epilepsy can never go away, some antiepileptic medicines will help to control seizures in the patient. Another new treatment is surgery. It is now said that surgery is used to treat epilepsy which will aim at removing the focus of the seizure.
The last which is the easiest and the most difficult by those who won’t abide by it is staying away from the triggers of seizures. Things like alcohol, stress and dehydration is likely to trigger seizure.

People actually live with epilepsy and it’s not a big deal. They look normal and no one will ever know that some of those people are battling with epilepsy and it depends on how they take care of it. People take antiepileptics to control their seizures. Lifestyle adjustment like staying away from alcohol and other triggers can help people live with seizures or epilepsy.

Epilepsy isn’t deadly but the seizure can be life threatening especially when the person hits with his head or other parts of the body.
