Daring the Impossible LOH #247
When you don't know who you are, you will act like who you are not.
I heard these words from someone I held esteemed. And from the moment I heard it, I have been asking myself these question - Betty who are you?
This brings me to this weeks topic of:
What's your most recent favourite thing(s) to do?
I have been on a quest lately to discover who I really am. There's this fire burning within me for self discovery. It feels as though, for years, I have been living like someone I am not because I don't know who I truly am.
Who I am right now is based on the things my parents and society told me. There are things I do because I was told I could do them and there are things I don't do because I was told I couldn't do them. I grew up living based on the standards set by those around me.
The first thing I focused on was training my mind to think in the right direction. I have been intentional about the thoughts that get into my heart. Someone once said:
You become what you constantly think.
With the knew knowledge I have gained about the power of the mind, I am on a quest to dare the impossible.
Daring the impossible is my new favourite thing.
Your only limitation is your mind. As long as you can think it, it can become a reality.
These are the words that keeps fuelling my every day decision and actions.
I've also discovered that I enjoy listening to great minds more now than ever, I love reading about people who brought about great inventions and those who achieved remarkable result in life.
For those people, it all started as a thought, some of those guys were ridiculed by friends and families. But because they constantly think about it, it became a reality.
To be honest, I can see the progress in my life. I am beginning to understand who I truly am, and that knowledge brings so much peace. I am no longer under pressure because I know i'm not like everyone else.
I read more now not because I am asked to, but because there's a glory on my inside that can only be birthed via knowledge.
The reason why I held on to this quote "When you don't know who you are, you will act like who you are not" so well is because of an incident that played out between me and my younger sister.
A true life story that changed my mindset
There's this particular day my mom came back from work. When she entered the house, she handed some pack of cookies to me for myself and my sister. She gave me two packs, and told me to take one pack and give the other pack to my sister. When she was done instructing me, she went out. My sister was sleeping when this discussion took place. By the time she woke up, I was done eating mine.
I was on my phone when she walk up to me and asked who dropped the pack of cookies that was on the dinning table. I told her it was mine she shouldn't touch it. She began pleading with me that she was hungry and she would love to take some. I told her to open the pack and take some from it and leave the rest for me.
You needed to see how her face lighted up with smile. All I could hear was "thank you Betty" with a big smile and a hug.
That cookie was her's but because she did not know it was hers, she acted in a way she was not supposed to.
This is the power of knowledge. I will pay the price of knowing.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy reading through.
