WAITING IN A ROOM THAT WASN'T MEANT FOR ME
Hello everyone you're welcome to My blog today
The sign board of Eat Rite Fast Food was hanging on the walls stuffed between two tall buildings and I was standing in front of the building staring up at it trying to bring out the borrowed confidence I had when I left my house , after a whole night of going through possible questions that will be asked . I came across the vacancy flier one day on my way back from the market and now the day has come to face my interview.
I pressed my hand against the glass doors and pushed the door when I went in I was hit first with the cold air conditioner at the reception. The aroma food ,meat pie and cake I walked up to the security guy inside and told him that I came to an interview he looked up at me and asked me if I received a call from them that morning I told him yes that I was called.
And then he asked if I came with my credentials I told him yes that I did then he gave me what sounded like bad news at first but wasn't really bad at the end, he told me that the manager was not around and he asked if I couldn't wait for him or I would have to go and return another day. But by then the job might be giving to somebody else I had to wait because it would be bad to lose the opportunity so I waited for the manager for about 3 hours before he showed up.
When the manager finally came he directed me to his assistant who came with him I was given a pen to write down my name and my phone number. I was so nervous I took the pen and almost fell out of my hands, I felt like I was holding hot coal and I didn't waste time writing my name chionye Amanda and it looked like I was writing someone else's name someone that I didn't know their name before .
It just looked strange to me more like the words were spinning around in my eyes but I had to swallow up my nervousness and focus on writing my name after that I gave them the pen and I was asked to wait for the manager to settle in before the interview commenced.
Finally I went up stairs when I was called to meet with the manager , a tall fair man Mr favor he was wearing a white shirt and a black pair of trousers . He was sitting across from me and then the interview commenced with simple questions he asked for my name ,where I'm from, where I live ,what kind of person i am and if I had any working experience I told him the truth ,there is no need to lie.
Then he asks about my school and what I studied in school the interview was interesting, I told him i studied public health and we talked so much about public health the prevention ,promotion and prolonging of health he asks some questions related to public health and I answered him the best of my knowledge. He got to the most important question that is asked in every interview, I don't know if it is because I have not been to one before but I felt that that was the most important question from me.
He asked me how much I wanted to be paid mind you this is a fast food spot and my work there is to serve food although he asked if I knew how to bake and I told him I know how to bake . but he said i will start with serving food first and I will be on probation for two weeks and if anything happens within that 2 weeks you would not be paid.
While I was still waiting for the question how much do you want us to pay you and I told him I wanted 50,000 naira for startups he said no that he couldn't offer 50,000 naira that he could offer 40,000 naira I weighed it and realize that it was better than just staying at home and not doing anything so I agreed to go with that.
Then he dropped the bombshell I had to work from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday to Sunday that was too much for me to handle because I had my sick mom to look after and my sister in the hospital ,she wasn't able to give mom the care she needed so I had to step in. I told him that I couldn't work within that time range i told him it wouldn't work for me. He didn't even want to consider me knowing that going back by 10 pm will be very dangerous for me as a young girl. He simply told me that he had somebody else to occupy the vacancy that I wasn't qualified for the job. I got back home that day feeling dejected I told my mom what happened.
She said if the work is for you you would have gotten the job . But it wasn't for you so relax and wait for something better to come and actually something better did come.
This is where I will drop my pen on this week The inkwell weekly contest.
Thank you for stopping by My blog.
